View Full Version : how to stop mass Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender

Basically the situation is that I have a support help desk, that can either take tickets via user login/password, or from emails to support@domain.com, which gets piped into the help desk. After an email is piped in, a reply is sent to the emailer, with a link to their ticket so they can view it through a browser, and they get emails whenever I reply.

here's the thing...

Sometimes things happen, in that I cannot send an email to the author. Sometimes it's just spam, from a bogus email, there's a few reasons the delivery failed can happen.

The problem, is pretty obvious, when i can't send the user an email, i get the Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender message back, however when that's received, my help desk creates another ticket, and sends a reply back to "limbo" which rejects it again, sending it back, creating another ticket, etc etc, so on and so forth.

This usually means around 50 open tickets I need to close whenever this email catastrophe happens.

My question is, any idea how I can stop this? The help desk software doesn't provide any protection from it, so what can *I* do? I've tried using cpanel email functions to discard emails from, with subject, with content, etc, nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

does your helpdesk Parser Rules or the option to ban?
