I'm have a small web design company I was thinking about offering hosting to clients who don't already have their sites hosted. Do you think that the following prices would be competative?

- $1.50 USD per GB of Bandwidth
- $0.05 USD per MB of Diskspace

How many people would signup (if they were looking for hosting) with the pricing below?

- $0.04 per MB Disk Space
- $1.15 per GB Transfer

competative compeditive
it's "competitive" ;)

- $0.04 per MB Disk Space
- $1.15 per GB Transfer
Well, it would be $31.50 for 500mb space and 10gb transfer. I can find better prices for that, but it depends on speed/features.

Depends partly on whether this is pick a plan and pay in advance or pay for services actually used. $.05/$1.50 means a small plan like 50/2 would be $5.50. That is a good price range. However, typical retail pricing depends on underutilization. If it is pay as you use, I think it is below normal retail. However, it would still be compared by customers to what they see retail.

That is why I haven't used this type plan...people are use to pricing oversold plans, and by comparison may think your plan looks poor.

Also, for the comment that you can do better than $31.50 for 500MB and 10 GB. My recent survey showed the average price for a plan that size was $32.95. WHT can really mislead you because we are so use to wholesale/reseller/bargains/specials here. But it is not indicative of the retail market. Particularly, since you have added value services, you should be able to charge reasonable market prices. For true use of 500/10 (not prepaid type account), then that price is considerably below average retail.

Yes, smaller hosting can be expensive this way, but larger hosting can be cheaper.

Ie. 50GB Transfer + 200MB Disk = $65.50/mo.

This is why I was thinking about possibly offering smaller pre-made packages on different servers too. But IMHO giving too many options is also a bad idea because it may confuse the customer.

EDIT: The way it is setup is the user can start with what they wish and they will have the ability to perform self-upgrades (via a control panel) as they go along. Then, when their billing cycle is up, the user is billed for what they have allotted to themselves plus any overages at a rate equal to the pricing structure above.

Also, xlr8rbmx. Nice to finally see another bmxer here. :)
