Relyc 03-02-2002, 03:03 PM Geocities is pretty bad in general, I imagine having hosting with them would be something like having a domain with NetSol... serve-you 03-02-2002, 03:21 PM My wife used a paid geocities account for a while when we were inbetween ISP's. Overall, it was not horrible, but it wasn't great. The whole yahoo empire is plagued with network problems and random downtime. I would never use any of their services for anything important. However for a personal site, it would be fine. -Dan RyanDro 03-02-2002, 03:29 PM GeoCities offers 20 GB of space? Thats the same amout of space as my whole hard drive, I find that hard to believe. If you are looking for a good host try http://plans.bluecityhosts.net/2.html this. It has many more features than GeoCities and costs much less. -RyanDro liz 03-02-2002, 03:30 PM I thought the plans they offer kind of sux... I would not want to host with them....... HostNutt 03-02-2002, 03:33 PM I think it is best to stay as far away from the whole Yahoo empire as possible. There are a lot better hosts out there for the same or less money. Besides, whenever I think of GeoCities all I see are those dumb adds they have on the side of every free site they host that never go away and take up half the page. I know if you pay, you will not have the adds, but that's just my opinion :) liz 03-02-2002, 03:42 PM Originally posted by HostNutt Besides, whenever I think of GeoCities all I see are those dumb adds they have on the side of every free site they host that never go away and take up half the page. I know if you pay, you will not have the adds, but that's just my opinion :) I can't agree more with that, I use to host my site on their free a/c and the ads got me so annoy, all the time covering half my site...that eventually went to paid hosting, not that everything went smoothly with the switch....but still I will not want to consider them at all........Its really piss me off when they started sending me e-mails saying that certain site I host on my free a/cs are too popular and using up the supposedly 3GB limited that was allocated to each free a/c . I find that hard to believe...the site in question was just full of jpeg files....and its around 14Mb ...the amount of usuage claim and the site stats does not tally at all...its just their gimmicks to get people to sign up for their paid plans, now that they just announce ceasing the ftp service for free a/s , so much for the marketing of their paid a/cs...just my 0.02 AcuNett 03-02-2002, 03:48 PM Ryan... not sure but I think he means 20GB BW, not space. Either that or 20MB space ;) Alanis 03-02-2002, 03:56 PM A friend of mine is using a paid Geocities account. When I was searching for a new host, she told she definitely doesn't recommend them. She, in fact, e-mail them well over a month ago about a problem she was having with her account, and has yet to get a reply. liz 03-02-2002, 03:59 PM Originally posted by Alanis She, in fact, e-mail them well over a month ago about a problem she was having with her account, and has yet to get a reply. Wow One month..that is very EFFICIENT and some kind of SUPPORT it is.... Alanis 03-02-2002, 04:00 PM Yeah I know! That's why she's in the market for a new host. :D liz 03-02-2002, 04:03 PM Originally posted by Alanis Yeah I know! A GOOD host will reply *within* a day. My host has a 6 hour policy. :) |
