View Full Version : Host with a lot/unlimited montly data transfer?
Ogmuk 03-02-2002, 10:38 AM I'm looking for a host that would offer good speed, 60+ GB or unlimited traffic with MySQL.
I'm going to move all the traffic that my EZBoard currently is getting to my own bulletin board (which most likely will be a vbulletin board). The EZBoard has at peeks maybe around 130 users connected at once and it gets a total average of 25000 page views per day, that is according to EZBoard's statistics.
Who has good experience with hosts that offer unlimited data transfer? Especially speed wise, since I read that hosts often cap the transfer speed to cut down your site's traffic. Or should I just go with a host that offers higher a higher amount of data transfer per month?
Thanks.
MadCool 03-02-2002, 10:43 AM You should stay away from hosts that offer unlimited bandwidth...
SuperDon 03-02-2002, 10:49 AM Chances are, if you sign up with a host that claims you can have "unlimited bandwidth" they will close you down within a month.

Thanks. Right. Choose someone that is honest about what you are getting.
bhalsted 03-02-2002, 12:49 PM I'd do a search here for unlimited and bandwidth, should shed some light on the myth.
Ogmuk 03-02-2002, 01:00 PM Ok, thanks guys, that's what I thought. ;)
Any suggestions on a host that offers a high amount of data traffic and/or low cost per extra GB?
At MyAcen.com it would cost me, according to my calculations, $139.95 monthly.
The Laughing Cow 03-02-2002, 01:24 PM I think maybe a dedicated server would be the way
unlimited is unpossible.....dont screw yourself by signing up with an unlimited bandwidth/space host.

RyanDro 03-02-2002, 03:07 PM when a host advertizes has having unlimited bandwith, it never truly means unlimited. Just make exactly sure how much they mean by unlimited if you do sign up with a host that says they offer unlimited bandwith. As for a messege board, I have never used Vbulliten but I do have a lot of expierience with Ikonboard and it has never caused me any problems. You can check the Ikonboard out at their web site (http://www.ikonboard.com)

AcuNett 03-02-2002, 03:10 PM I don't like IkonBoard.... takes too much resources :stickout .
RyanDro 03-02-2002, 03:15 PM Everyone has their personal favorite messege board, i guess :stickout

Does anyone have any suggestions about hosts that offer good dedicated server packages?
iamdave 03-02-2002, 06:19 PM look at my sig
iamdave 03-02-2002, 06:19 PM nothing is unlimited...bandwidth isn't cheap...therefore unlimited is not a possibility
The Laughing Cow 03-02-2002, 08:40 PM I am not an expert in dedicated servers by no means but from my experience:
Cheap/Budget:

http://lightone.net
http://webauthorities.com <- a friend has used them and they are v.good so far
For quality/assurance

The Laughing Cow 03-03-2002, 08:23 AM IMO If you are going dedicated you must either pay a lot more for some reasonable support or you must know Linux inside out, cheaper companies provide little/no tech support
