After a string of short lived affairs with over 11 Cell phones & PDAs in just 3 years, I think I have finally found one I can settle down with. After less than 4 days of using the Treo 600 I think Im in love. I recommend this PDA/Cell phone hybrid to persons who run web hosting companies and dont want to be constantly tied to their desk, nor be stuck lugging around a cell phone & a PDA, or even worse, a heavy laptop. With this phone I can log into Kayako eSupport and answer tickets, log into WHM and CPanel, and check my email. So if you're looking around for such a solution the treo may be just right for you.

Id love to have one but I dont think it would last me long...I've broken 3 cell phones in 4 months.

Maybe you've been 'cell phone jinxed' :D. You're right, may be you shouldnt invest too much in a cell phone.

My last cell phone was gone because I accidentally step on it. Cell phone wise it seems my brain refuse to learn anything more than how to dial and connect a call and send SMS : (

Thanks for the review. :)

You know, I may actually end up going the Treo route as sometimes lugging the laptop can be a bit of a nuisance on trips.

In particular, my Dell has developed heat problems so lately I've needed to attach one of those laptop coolers (LapCool2) to it just to prevent it from overheating.

Sounds like a Treo might be just the thing hehe.

Don't all you clumbsy great clots have cell insurance. I dunno about in the US, but here in the UK I have cell insurance for only £5 extra per month (about $9.50) and it covers drops, spills, theft, etc.

I loved my Treo 300 and now I'm even happier with my Treo 650. Well worth the $$.

Ya the first one was a Motorola V265...dropped it a few times started getting static etc... Insurance Replaced it for 50.00 deductible

2nd one was an LG VX7000...had it a whole 2 weeks or so, was wrestling with a friend...got tackled and landed on side...had it in a holster and it broke the inside lcd from my 185 lbs landing on it.. Insurance also replaced for 50.00 but canceled my insurance on it for Excessive Claims

3rd one is the same thing...

I've got a 600 and I love it. Thoughts of upgrading to the 650, but it's just not worth the cost of upgrade yet.

Although, if you don't need all the functionality of a treo, a BlackBerry (if your primary concern is e-mail) is also great. Both would be great additions for webhosts.

I'm considering buying Treo 650 myself, I would feel much better having it so I don't have to count on someone else to handle support tickets.

I am using a Communicator 9500 :) And loving it more and more every minute!!!
It takes over many tasks that when bringing a laptop around is inconvient.

I too used many different PDAs over a number of years and this was the first one that I could not get enough off after months of using it.

Doesn't have any of those "WOW" factors but serves the main core of what I need to do.

Never used a Treo before but I have operated the Palm OS some years back with Palm and Sony's Clie and I must give my thumbs up for it. But after using the 9500.... I am sticking to Symbian :P

why not ge a pocket pc instead? it runs on a windows operating system and you can do as much as what you do on your desktop pc or your latop. pocket pc's are as the same size as a treo or and PDA. just my opinion nonetheless :]

I had a pocket pc before, in order to connect to the internet I had to go through the trouble of using my SE T68i as a modem each time (very few places have Wi-Fi spots where Im from). Secondly, its no where near the treo as far as managing email is concerned. No where near...the Treo is a lean mean email machine, and then some.

also a 320x320 hi res screen.

As for PocketPC, I haven't seen a ppc phone that:
1) is as good of a phone
2) does e-mail as good
3) has as good of organizational software.

IMO the treo is the best integration of a pda and phone. blackberry the best e-mailing phone. and pocketpc...well, they typically have the best gadgets (best screens, best camera), but not as good of phones or pda's (IMO).

Treo is a great product. I have a Tungsten T3 and love the longer screen. If the Treo had one, I'd be out buying one right now.

How do PDAs usually connect to the internet? I imagine you guys rack up huge cell phone bills...

They would typically connect the same way that a mobile phone would, via GMRS. The difference is the larger screen and the ability to use a Web browser. I use the GMRS service on my Bluetooth phone to connect to the Internet, then connect the Tungsten T3 to the phone via Bluetooth and surf. The Treo does it, I believe, without the extra phone as the middle man.

The Blackberrys are nice for email - but that is it. If you really want to be able to remote into your servers - get a Pocket PC or TREO. The phone on my blackberry is not that good either.

Does the Sidekick II allows remote web access and SSH?

I have a blackberry 7100t (did have a motorola 2 way pager). I like it. I can use it for e-mail and AOL/Yahoo/ICQ instant messaging. I have it setup as a modem on my laptop. Works well. People think I am nuts that I have a laptop mount in my truck and that I have a place for my pocket pc, laptop, and wireless internet through the blackberry. I just wish that T-Mobile offered 2way service (like what Nextel, Sprint, and Verizon do) so I could get away from carrying a cell phone + a blackberry.

I dont believe that the Sidekick offers remote access and SSH at this time.

The Treo 650 has much nicer graphics, but it's slow compared to the 600. Calling someone takes like an extra second and it gets really annoying sometimes. Plus the way they've redone the interface, I notice I often end up calling someone when all I wanted was to cancel and go back to the main phone screen (pressing the green phone button).

With that said, the 650's graphics are MUCH MUCH better than the 600's. I can't imagine working without one. :)

Hm...I haven't used a 650 extensively (and still own a 600), but I haven't heard of it slowing down from others. Are you sure it's not maybe just your phone?

I bought my Treo 600 on Feb 2004.
Lost it at the movies a month ago(Feb 2005)
And just bought another Treo 600 again...

Because is great!.
It was the only Cell phone capable of ataching an external KeyBoard.
http://store.treocentral.com/content/accessories/14-42.htm?tc_ref=3503702&adl=sidebar

With this I can be at the restaurant, check my e-mail for support tickets, and answer them easily, and if I need to extend the message a lot more I just go to my truck and Insert the External KeyBoard.

I have installed Veriichat which lets me log in to several Instant Messengers.(MSN, AIM, YIM, Mirc, etc.)

If you have dedicated servers you can SSh to them.

There is a LOT of software for your Treo 600.
I could even Tune my guitar with it, as I'm in a Chuch chorus

This time I bought the Aluminum Case

I was going to get Treo 650 but then fell in love with Nokia 9500. We have been together for a couple of months now and I have to say it is the best relationship I have ever had... :) I just press the right buttons and she does whatever I want... :)
