Just wondering if anyone had suggestions for a good, reliable host WITH GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE and RELIABILITY and SERVER PERFORMANCE, who's been in business for more than a year, with a deal somewhat similar to myacen.

(I was ready to sign up with myacen, but it took so long to get my pre-sales questions answered that I got spooked about service issues and decided to look elsewhere).

I particularly would like at least 200M storage and 10G transfer (preferabley 15G), at least 1 MySQL, Perl and PHP, mailing list and subdomains. Shell access would be nice but isn't a deal-breaker.

I'd also like a 30-day money-back guarantee and to be able to pay by U.S. bank check. Hoping to pay less than $100/yr.

I'm still considering tera-byte, but they don't do subdomains or mailing lists and I'm still trying to decide if it's acceptable to do without that.

I'm also considering Aletia, but still awaiting answer on whether they accept payment by check.

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

If good customer service, reliability and server performance are important to you, and you really need 10-15GB transfer per month, I think you should consider increasing your budget, as $99 doesn't even cover the cost of good quality bandwidth, not to mention support and servers!

I am a client of MN - I haven't seen any posts by you over there? (assuming you would be using the nick "Sharon").

Good point about the bandwidth. Actually, I have no idea how much bandwidth I need because this site has been someplace allowing unlimited bandwidth, so I haven't measured.

Thinking about it now, I'd guess we probably NEED less than 1-2G after the first month when all the files are uploaded -- a lot of the stuff is archival to be available if/when needed, but not accessed regularly (this is a club site, club's been around for 50 years, lots of old newsletters, photos etc.). I could probably go with much lower bandwidth, and upload the archive files over a couple of months instead of all at once.

What's MN?

Chances are you'll end up using less transfer than you initially believed. Most hosts will allow for upgrading fairly painlessly, so starting with a lower end plan would be a good start to get a feel for exactly what your site will be pulling. You can always upgrade later.

This way you'll have a wider option of hosts to choose from, and be able to select a quality host that meets your needs.

We currently have a plan with hitspot.net, and they have been extremly responsive to our support needs and have been reliable.
You might check them out..

As I explained in the email to you, technical support takes priority over sales questions :)

Don't you have separate people doing sales and tech support, or is Myacen just a one-person operation?

Regarding the bandwidth Issues.

You can get about 5GB or 6GB of Tier 3 bandwidth for that 1GB of Tier 1.

Tier 1 will of course allow your site to load a lot faster.
