Is it something like some of the free DNS providers give you to use just wondering how easy it is to use :D -Edward- 12-13-2000, 07:46 PM its very easy to use - add domain - add ip address and boom your done i got access today and found it easy to use. fatale 12-13-2000, 09:18 PM I have about 30 or so domain names hosted by their DNS servers and couple of days ago I started having problems with resolving names ending with www. I.e., say, domain.com resolves just fine, but www.domain.com doesn't. The way I configured it -- A record for domain.com and CNAME record for www.domain.com pointing to domain.com. And it's totally random -- several domain names from all 30 have this problem, next day they'll resolve just fine but several other names will stop resolving -- so it's probably not a configuration error. Am I the only one experiencing this problem? eva2000 12-14-2000, 01:46 AM hmm.. on my rackspace server i have cname for www hostname but everywhere i read it says www should be an A record - so i did that for the tera-byte dns control panel mydomain.com when typed in resolves to http://www.mydomain.com ? Chicken 12-14-2000, 07:44 AM You have the domain set up on the server as: www for hostname domain.com for domain name In tera's DNS, set up the domain: Add domain: domain.com Than add A record: www For both of these, put IP address of server/or the dediciated IP address assigned to the domain. I also wildcard the domain at this time as well. Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to **IP ADDRESS OF SERVER** Never had a problem. Chicken 12-14-2000, 07:46 AM Also note that for subdomains I do the exact same thing. The only time I use CNAME is for aliasing one sundomain to everyone.net's mail service. Otherwise, create an A record. eva2000 12-14-2000, 09:42 AM Originally posted by Chicken Also note that for subdomains I do the exact same thing. Otherwise, create an A record. i just use your site as an example :) if i type http://www.woobster.com/ i go to http://www.woobster.com/ if i type http://woobster.com/ without the www i still go to http://www.woobster.com/ what i want is http://woobster.com to go and stay as woobster.com in the browser url box without www in it :) for example my site hosted elsewhere http://eva2000.com http://www.eva2000.com show up as they are when i typed... marksy 12-14-2000, 11:42 AM Sounds like they use rewrite rules in their httpd.conf file which I doubt they give you direct access to. cisites 12-14-2000, 12:04 PM I already have that problem :). Please make it go away. I type in 'midhost.com' and 'midhost.com' stays in my browser. It's annoying as hell. Keeg 12-14-2000, 12:52 PM that is an httpd.conf thing built into the cobalt raq's, it is suposed to be there, it is working correctly. if you want to create a record without www i believe you can leave the hostname section blank and that will do it (ive never actually tried) you might want to check the cobalt site about turning the rewrite rule off. however dont just turn it off by editing your httpd.conf as that will void your warrenty and only be temporary until the raq remakes the file on its next update. It's annoying as hell. How funny! You've got opposite problems. Maybe she can set your domains up and you can set up her domains? :) eva2000 12-15-2000, 11:54 AM does someone have a working example for a MX record for a domain using tera-byte's dns control panel ? with access email for the domain checked.. i still can't receive email user@domain.com but can at user@www.domain.com when i direct email to user@domain.com i get a connection refused by mail.domain.com i setup mail.domain.com in the dns control panel as a cname entry and added a MX record under domain.com i.e.domain.com has an IP of 216.234.191.100 mail for domain.com is delivered to mail.domain.com with a preference of 10 www has an IP of 216.234.191.100 mail is an alias for domain.com [Edited by eva2000.com on 12-15-2000 at 11:08 AM] -Edward- 12-15-2000, 01:55 PM Hi - Can anyone tell me if http://www.surfbaud.com works for them?. I set it up earlier this week and i still get cannot be found. cisites 12-15-2000, 02:44 PM Nope. -Edward- 12-15-2000, 03:31 PM Got it working now hadnt set it up correctly cisites 12-15-2000, 03:48 PM What did you change? I think I have the same problem with http://www.cisites.com and http://www.rhasx.com -Edward- 12-15-2000, 04:06 PM surfbaud.com has an IP of 123.123.123.123 www has an IP of 123.123.123.123 Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 123.123.123.123 Replace the 123.123.123.123 with your ip address and it should work. Thats how i have surfbaud.com setup and it seems to work fine. Chicken 12-15-2000, 08:01 PM Originally posted by eva2000.com does someone have a working example for a MX record for a domain using tera-byte's dns control panel ? I don't put anyting for a MX record. woobster.com has an IP of 216.234.160.225 www has an IP of 216.234.160.225 Non-matching DNS requests forwarded to 216.234.160.225 I get mail@mydomain fine. teck 12-31-2000, 03:02 PM okay..in the dns control panel, how should we setup the cname record? i want blah.domain.com pointing to my cable ip, not the the webserver. is this possible? Chicken 12-31-2000, 03:08 PM A record: host name will be 'blah', and the IP address will be your cable IP. teck 12-31-2000, 03:18 PM danke..also, for my main account, do i have to add the domain to the dns administrator or is it already in their servers somewhere. Chicken 12-31-2000, 08:02 PM Main account... main accout.... eh? You have to add the domain if that's what you mean. Nothing is automatically in anywhere (if that helps), but I'm not sure what you mean? (SH)Saeed 12-31-2000, 08:31 PM Teck, I'm assuming you have a Raq3. When you get your server it is setup with an IP and your domain (you can see this in IP Administrator). You can use the DNS Administrator to add additional domains. Saeed teck 12-31-2000, 09:15 PM thanks..thats what i mean. i meant the domain for the raq. i figured it was already in the ip administrator area. i didnt know if i had to add it also to the dns part again. anyway, i think my problems have been solved except for one but i'll search the cobalt archives for it. |
