View Full Version : full virtual root access?

Hi,

I don't know if this is possible or not, but is there such a thing as a virtual server that operates *exactly* like a dedicated server (but with less resources)? I need an account in which I can install whichever version of apache I want, and all sorts of other packages. Basically this all requires root access, no restrictions in any way. So that if I installed a version of apache/mysql etc, all other root level accounts on that server would still have their versions untouched. Are there any hosts that offer such a service?

I would like to get a dedicated server eventually, but just not at this point.

Thank you.

example: sometimes I see people asking hosts what versions of php/mysql/perl/apache are installed etc.... is there such thing as virtual root access that would allow me install whatever versions I want?

oh... and what is 'pseudo root' access? (using FreeVSD?)

Thanks for your help.

Go check them out, they offer 'em. Might want to call them to ask specifics though.

Yes, it's called VDS (virtual dedicated server) or VPS (virtual private server). Try searching with those keywords.
