View Full Version : I can't stop being amazed!
I while ago, I created a "CPanel" manual. It used the exact same Cpanel theme. After running a search in Google for ProNIC Solutions earlier today, this is what I found:
Number 1:
http://zeroexiled.net/cpanel01/mysql.php
The page on the URL above was stolen from my CPanel manual. As you can see this person doesn't even spell check their copied documents. If you look closely, you will see "ProNIC Solutions does not provide ... " on the third paragraph.
Number 2:
http://zeroexiled.net/cpanel01/shoppingcart.php
Another host, yet also stole my CPanel manual. Again, look where it says "ProNIC Solutions offers Akopia Interchange...." This is even old, is not even Akopia anymore. I wonder how long this guy has been mentioning our name there.
These are now different, they didn't exactly copy the exact page, but they copied and pasted the text, which is not a big deal if they would have removed the word "ProNIC" from it:
Number 1:
http://thehelpfactor.com/manual/advanced.html
Search on the document for "ProNIC" and you will see towards the button of the document where it says: "ProNIC Solutions determines that you are abusing the system from your use of this feature..."
Number 2:
http://www.celini.com/hosting/support/tutorials/uploading_with_ftp.htm
Again, search for ProNIC and you will find "ProNIC Solutions, you may need to use the IP ADDRESS until the name is propagated..."
Finally, this is the most disturbing one. This guy downloaded our site and then uploaded it on his server:
His: http://cobalt.k2services.com/cgiinst.htm
Ours: http://support.pronicsolutions.com/cobalt_hosting/cgiinst.htm
I have to get my friend attorney again
Choppy 02-28-2002, 10:03 PM Wow that is bad!
So they even kept the name of your company on the user manuals!
You should send them an email and charge them for a e-copy of the manuals, that are spell checked or something..
This is really bad man i can imagine how long you spent creating something like this and how ****ty you would be from someone copying it as there own!
Good luck mate,
I know. What's worse is that "ProNIC" is no way common. It doesn't even exist on a dictionary, so if they would have at least run a spell checker, they would have found it
jamenjaw 02-28-2002, 10:10 PM dude i kow what its like to have a site riped. i think mine was riped cause i had a TON of hits to the search pages but very few to my main page or others.

Wow... don't people look at copyright laws..?
ScottD 02-28-2002, 10:15 PM While doing a bit of research on TOS and AUP's I found quite a few copies. Who knows the sources, but here are a few of em:
AffordableHost
http://www.affordablehost.com/tos.html
(copy) http://xism.net/tos.html
(partial copy) http://www.dkbhosting.com/aup.html
Rackshack
http://www.rackshack.net/aboutus/tos.asp
(shifted copy) http://www.mylinuxisp.com/tos.htm
(copy) http://www.symplistic.com/tos.html
*****
https://www.*****.com/?zone=support/terms
(almost copy) http://www.host-all.com/compinfo/spam.shtml
Readyhosting
http://www.readyhosting.com/CustomerDisplayTOS.html
(copy) http://www.earthplaza.net/terms.html
(copy) http://www.clicktech.com/hosting/terms.aspThe headings are just where I looked first before identifying the duplicates.
My guess is that some of these are stock from somewhere, or were taken with permission (hopefully?).
Chicken 03-01-2002, 01:09 AM Some could be resellers (or past resellers). I don't find that a TOS/AUP copy is something to worry much about (though it isn't my site, so maybe the owners would). I do find site content other than TOS/AUP to be something I'd have a problem with. As I've said before, many people don't mind sharing info and pages/parts, etc. All you have to do is simply ask.

If you view the source on their cgiinst.htm, you'll notice they never changed the ALT tag of the image in the very top left of the corner. It still has: <td width="185"><img src="images/logo2.gif" alt="ProNIC Solutions" width="185" height="60"></td> to load THEIR logo!
I know. I already sent them a letter via postal service. It is the only legal way to seek legal action. Unbelievable

How about if you paid an arm and a leg for a lawyer to match your Terms with your web site and offferings?
bert, unfortunitallly this is why you need to create a memebrs center or just password a section. Just to keep thieves away for as long as possible. We created a lot of Ensim walk throughs, including setting up mail for like 25 clients with screen caps, screen caps for like 8 ftp programs, etc... I actually had watermarks thrown in as well as passwording them. Just so I don't see months of work show up in someone elses Support Center.

Ours is the original. I've stated here, on more than one occassion, that hosts can feel free to borrow from our TOS. Not a problem.
This offer is ONLY extended to our TOS though - no other part of our site may be copied.

Justin H. 03-01-2002, 04:43 PM Unbelievable. Is there anything you plan on doing about this?

Tina, I figured as much. It is good to know that people like you are kind enough to allow others to use work you likely paid a good deal for. My hat's off to ya!
Bert, I hope you get some sort of restitution or at least an acknowledge ment from the thieves. You did good work on those help files. Good luck to ya.
