I registered a domain at yahoo on 2005-01-05. At first I'm able to change the name servers, then suddenly I couldn't change it anymore. It shows "Your domain name activation is pending."
I paid my credit card bill a month ago.
2. what happens if a domain registration they marked as successful turned out as failed, they will not charge our credit card accounts?
thks

That's quite disturbing. Have you asked Yahoo about it?
If a registrar or reseller has tried but eventually failed to register
the domain name for some reason, they'll refund the money. Well,
make that should anyway.

I got the domain working and stuffs before. I had changed the namesevers once previously, but today I want to change it again, it shows domain not activated and nameserver option was not available.

maybe there was something wrong with the payment clearing and yahoo deactivated it.

best option is to contact yahoo support they can tell you more.
if payment is all good you should be able to manage the domain easily.

If yahoo support is not good just try to contact melbourne IT which handles the registrations for them

It might be worth a try. Generally direct access to MelbourneIT is good for managing the account after Yahoo has made the administrative arrangements to have it registered with them. They might say this is a Yahoo problem with those arrangements.
If Yahoo is unresponsive, you might have to get their attention via Better Business Bureau of Silicon Valley or Santa Clara County D.A.

I would hope by now yahoo has gotten their act together. Call them again and give them a little bit to get it solved
