After reading just about every post on this forum....It,s scary to hear of all the problems that exist online due to scammers, hackers etc. But also very informative.

I want to start my own sites..webspace = no problem ! but domain names cost money no matter were I looked. Right
Problems due to the country I live in and no international creditcard it is nearly imposable to pay for it .I managed to register a paypal , e-gold (REMOVED) and iKobo (REMOVED) accounts.
Now..Ive got lots of good ideas I would like to try online and are sure I would succeed if I only get a chance.

If anyone can assist with any direction and support..It would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

MOD EDIT: account numbers removed for security reasons

You don't need a domain to have web space... having your own domain certainly looks better, but if you can't get one there are other options, such as a free hosting account with Geocities (www.geocities.com)

or open an account with a company which has good reputation, no harm out of that

I,ll check them

Its just that www businessname dot com or so looks proffesional and reputable. Google and other sites which I want on my site will not aproove your site if you haven't got your own domain! they check whois.

I just need help to start. I will manage to generate income and will then pay my own way.
1)Written a e-book
2)Plan a link exchange type of sites
3)Market other people GOOD product for commission
This list is endless
I,ll make a deal or coop or something or sell your product for no commission etc

Need a jumpstart..please
(Kuwaitnet looks good only 23$/year)

I have seen plenty of Google links to sites at Geocities etc, but if you want to run a business then, yes, having your own domain looks better.

Are you specifically looking for a .com, or will anything do? I read something about free .tk domains somewhere... and my first domain was a free sub-domain under eu.org

If you want people to help you in return for some goods or services (and somebody just might!) it would probably help if you revealed just a little bit about yourself... for example, what country do you live it?

I know a lot of people prefer .com... but why don't you "fly the flag" and show the world where you are by registering a domain in your own ccTLD, .na? Looks cheap enough to me, and you won't have any currency conversion worries (I've just been to to na-nic.com.na web site to see how much they charge)

Just an idea...

Good idea..but
People here told me I cant get a .na because somebody here bought the rights for .na and .com.na
They say it will cost me 1000 to 5000 for a year. But that does not sound so believable to me now either. Where and how do I find out what's the real story. Isn't there a global registration office online I can check.
I'll contact my isp tomorrow.

Found it. worse than I heard.
www .iway.na/faq.php?item=9

It cost N$240.00 per month (Vat Exclusive)
If you choose a top level .na domain (e.g. www.yourdomainname.na) you will have to pay an aditional N$2200.00 once-off registration fee.
It normally takes 1 to 2 months for the registration process to complete.

What a joke (This country sucks big time regarding IT )

You got the wrong site and the wrong people. The .na country code registry is at

www.na-nic.com.na

I'll leave you to read the rules in detail, but it would appear that registering domains directly under .na is the exception rather than the rule and needs to go through a special authorisation process in the registry. Hence the extra time and cost.

The "normal" extensions are com.na org.na and alt.na costing 125, 62.50 and 12.50 Namibian Dollars per year respectively. Looks pretty reasonable to me! (Registering under SLDs is a policy Namibia has in common with other countries including the UK)

Processing time is quoted as ten days on the registry site - obviously still done manually and not instant. Not ideal, but not excessive either.

The 240 dollars on the site you found is not for a domain name registration, but for a hosting/dial-up package which includes a domain. Totally different thing!

For the benefit of others, 100 Namibian Dollars is equivalent to 17 USD.

Thanks...I found them just after my lastpost .
Yup.......that terms and conditions.......does I look like that when you apply for a .com ?I downloaded the application form and will complete it today. I still think a .com is better than a .com.na
---that is for commercial sites. But all I need to do is start somewhere and this will do.
Now I need to find a good host (Non Namibia) we have got 3.6Mb bandwidth in the entire country.
Lubeca..personal question:Do you generate income from the web ?
