The question makes sense, but there is no answer to it.
That completely depends on the nature of your sites, are they complete static HTML it should be fine but as single site like yahoo could be too much for your small server :)

But I just want to know to a web hosting company, how many sites do they serve normaly on a server.

Now I put about 250 on it,but I am not sure is it too much or little.

The site are not only html but also perl and asp enabled.

there is no answer. You have to figure that out for yourself. Check your ram and swap usage. The most important thing is your load averages. If you see them going over 1 for periods of time its time to get a new server. If everything seems good then you can still put more customers on the server.

You can have one big time customer hammer that server alone or 500 small customers be fine on that machine. Its all depends on the customers and what their sites do.

Checking your system load would give you a good idea....

However, my personal opinion is that 350 clients should be fine. Never go over 500 on a server. That is the maximum, I'd recommend. There again maybe just static html sites with less load maybe able to take more....

Have a great day :)
