Is the server on 100mbit port and what's the bandwidth limit?

net

Banwidth is unlimited http://raidarray.net/plans.php .

Not sure with the port speed.

10 cent to trial the service... interesting,... in actual fact, the promotion is so good, at 10cent, they are making a lost to Paypal. Payal will ask more than that to process the payment. Why give paypal money for people to trial your service?

Anyway, just signup for an account. Will see how fast the process takes...

The backup servers are on 100 mbit ports and there is no bandwidth limit.

Signed up, as well.

Interesting... says instant account activation, however, I've received my receipt saying payment was processed, but still dont have an account. Its been a few hours.... I'll see how their support is.

EDIT Support responded in less than 5 minutes with my account info. Pretty impressive!

Very good offer. If you support NFS and Rsync I'm sure you will get more customers (included me :) )

How are you connecting ? Do you mount via port 445 or 446 ? Because I am mounting via 446 because 445 didn't work and maybe that port has a problem ??

interservermike
03-12-2005, 08:11 PM
No worries guys. We are aware of the problem. it is affecting ONLY people using port 446 to samba mount. It should be resolved shortly. Only a temporary problem speeds will be back to the usual soon.

ok fine
i'm using the default port for mounting

TheDedicatedReview

Yes, we are having the same problem! We are using port 445 getting no more than 52K/s. When we FTP in we can download at over 400K/s. It's just when moving from The Planet to your datacenter.

TheDedicatedReview

So much for their "fast" support.

thomas.smith
03-17-2005, 12:08 PM
They told me it is faster if you use NFS. They did just set up NFS. At present port 446 works at around 150 KB/s at my end. Which is ok considering I am using incremental backups and it can upload 13 GB per day and server. But I must say their support was very fast and helpful in this matter so I don`t really understand why you complain about their support.

TheDedicatedReview
03-17-2005, 12:12 PM
We have had a ticket in and no one will respond. They blamed it on port 446 but that has nothing to do with it. 150KB/s is still very slow considering they are offering 100MBit. We expect to get atlest 300-400KB/s. Otherwise moving 33GB will take forever.

thomas.smith

Has anyone tried NFS and is it faster ?

JonnyQuags
03-17-2005, 04:36 PM
Everyone is free to try nfs as well. To add this just contact support with the IP address you are coming from and your username. This is a fairly old thread and we're not really checking back on it so I suggest contact us directly for any issues you're are having.

ExovianBen - the ticket you are talking about was open today and has already been responded to.

Also, you may want to try port 443 as there is less of a chance to have any type of firewall or rate limit on that port.

Raidarray has come to the rescue! It seems the NFS is 20x faster.

100%[====================================>] 5,406,847 1.23M/s ETA 00:00

Samba = 50K/s
NFS = 1.23M/s

:-p

Thanks raidarray!

Someone try with rsync over ssh ?
i tried, but didn't succeed (can't connect), maybe it's a firewall problem but my server ip is already allowed for sambe mount so i didn't understand :(

Well nevermind that. No one there seems to be able to provide the support we need. The NFS is VERY VERY slow. When cd /mnt/backup/ and doing wget on a file it is 1M/S but the cPanel backup has been running 24 hours and has backed up all of the cPanel data, and has been packaging the first account for the past 4 hours. REDICULOUS and USELESS. We have asked Raid Array multiple times how to fix this issue and they will not help us so if anyone knows of a better backup solution please let us know. thank you

Just ordered my backup about 10 min ago. The "Instant Setup" is now taking longer and longer as time goes by. But you kinda have to expect that since they probably underestimated the demand for their service and are not prepared to handle all the orders and support issues. Still, at $25 and with unlimited bandwidth, it's just too good of a deal to pass up.

My main worry is whether or not one can rely on this company for the reliable storage of data. If a company is not prepared enough to handle simple things like trouble tickets (illustrated by the numerous complains from previous posts), can we expect them to be prepared for situations such as crashed servers or damaged drives? If they can't take 1 minute to answer a trouble ticket, how will they find the time to handle disasters?

Through NFS I have been getting 7.8 MB/s transfer to them. Unfortunately I am having various problems with NFS... The process that copies the file doesn`t end. Anyway, they have helped me a lot and I think they are working on it. They told me they set up a test server to test things and make them work better... I think they are working on it.

I was thinking about signing up for the 25GB plan but after hearing all the problems here, I'd wait until those issues gets ironed out. Is everyone having very slow speeds to them?

TheDedicatedReview
03-23-2005, 12:24 AM
Yes. We had 20K/s. They do not know how to fix anything! We offered to let them fix it or refund us. They did a refund. What does that tell you. We went days without updates from them. We'd rather spend $160 on DiskSync from the planet. That runs in minutes to backup gigs. Theirs took weeks for mb's. I would highly recommend you find another solution.

thomas.smith
03-23-2005, 01:07 AM
Maybe they just got tired of you...

Raidarry has worked a lot to improve the performance for me and I am having around 2MB/s on all server but one now and they are working on this server. I am having around 200 KB/s on that server via Samba which is enough to make a backup and they are working to improve this also. I am very happy with their support and I am confident that I will have a very good backup solution once this is all finished.

TheDedicatedReview

How can a company get tired of their customer? If you buy a car with a warranty and they get tired of you do they take the car back and refund you without fixing it? No, they would be out of business.

If thats the case, then raidarray is conducting poor business ethics.

thomas.smith
03-23-2005, 01:46 AM
Maybe they just got tired of you and thought 25 bucks isn`t worth it. But I don`t know... I mean what are you complaining about ? You told them "fix it or refund me" and they did what you asked for. You should be perfectly happy. If you don`t want a refund...don`t ask for one.

Couple of questions:

Is there a test file available that anyone can point me to? I just don't see it?

Also does anyone know if it is possible to just grow the space as our needs grow or do we need to buy additional accounts with different logins?

tubededentifrice

i tried the rsync through ssh
that's a lot faster (about 700kByte/s)
works fine :)
