View Full Version : Cluster Controlpanel

We are looking into building a cluster at this moment we are thinking on a setup kind of like this,

2x software LB's (normal + backup)
2x webserver (normal + failover)
2x DB (normal+failover)
1x NAS (storrage)

Who has any experience with Directadmin in a cluster environment?
From what I understand Directadmin does not work with local IP's, so I have my doubts on if it will work in a setup like this.

Does anyone have any experience on this ?

I'm still doing research on how to set this all up.
Any tips are welcome, allready found linux-ha / lvs and redhat's piranha howto. :)

Thank you,

Just a note (if you're considering alternatives to DA), H-Sphere has build-in clustering support, Plesk has an addon called Plesk Expand which allows for clustering, and I believe cPanel also has some sort of clustering ability. I don't know about Ensim.

We are running H-Sphere at the moment, H-Sphere has no support for NAS systems other then Netfiler, and unfortunaly also has no builtin support for redundancy.

Plesk Expand like H-Sphere has clustering capibilities but only in the means of controlling other Plesk machines and not with failover support.

for lack of a better picture this is more like what I mean,

You can have a look to this:

http://www.gplhost.com/?chap=2&rub=softwares&sousrub=dtcdoc#2.8

I should also add that I've just added the support for copying all domain names list from one panel to another, so it's now VERY easy to setup a backup NS or MX.

Having a BIG webfarm running in cluster is a very good idea IMHO. And iit's only a mater of sharing few files between servers...

You can use a standard nfs server with hsphere, no problem.
While it does not exactly have built in support for redundancy once configure it should work pretty straight forward.

Except the H-Sphere scripts only support the quota function on NetApp filers. While you could use any NFS server you want, you would need to re-write the quota scripts to work, or live without disk quotas.

I'm curious to see if Normanu or anyone else finds a better control panel for a clustered environment than H-Sphere.

Unfortunally I still haven't found a solution ....
A pitty because h-sphere billing sucks big time and there are no alternative billing software which work with H-Sphere ....

I am curious what's wrong with hsphere billing?

Ok I have read about that. I think this is a business practise issue. I buy many services from US vendors they sometime bill me without a invoice, not even a email invoice.

I accept it as we can use our credit card statement for accounting records and filing.

When buying across the globe become common this different in account practise and filing is inevitable.

Hsphere do give an email invoice, how it look is not a concern to me, at least there is a statement. Of course I do agree there is room for improvement.

DirectAdmin is very flexible. I'm sure you could make it work in a cluster environment. Also, I'm 100% positive that DirectAdmin's quota works over NFS.

That said, for plesk, directadmin, enom and some others there are allready allot of different products who do make a good billing solution.

This is a pretty important factor in a business, so this gives H-Sphere a lot of negative points in my book.
Of course there are allot of positive points, its a great panel don't get me wrong .....
Only in Europe its pretty essential to have good invoices, also my clients demand them ... so there is almost no other choice then going the other way.
