Macromedia Fireworks is what I use. Better price that Adobe Photoshop and also what my designer used - therefore it became my choice.

Paintshop Pro might be ok, but I don't think it's aimed at whole website design that much ( just learning about slicing :) ), rahter for single elements, like a button, logo etc.

I also have a copy of Microsoft PhotoDraw and it's pretty nice, but not used that much I think.

Where are you learning slicing from, is that when you have a whole image and you slice it up into separate images so it loads onto a web page correctly using the right tables etc...

if you have any info on this post a link if you would

thanks

photoshop has a really nice image slicer with it. The program is called imageready? i think it is. You can design the graphic right in photoshop and import it to image ready and slice away. Save as optimized html. Saved me loads of time and thats how i make all my pages now.

Does it save it as an html with the fram work already or does it just save the pictures as individual and then you have to piece it together within your web page.??

Yes, exactly. Well, I am learning it from the manual that came woth the box. Also by looking at the design template our designer made.

Fireworks saves it as html. Also adds Javascript for rollover stuff etc. Really nice :)

My choices (in order of preference):
1. Fireworks
2. Photoshop
3. Paint Shop Pro

Fireworks is an amazingly powerful program. Speaking of slicing images, it's really easy in Fireworks. And if you're lucky enogh to have Dreamweaver as well, you're more than set.

Personally, Macromedia's Dreamweaver/Fireworks combo is the best out there...by far.

photoshop
fireworks
3ds max

I love using fireworks, mainly cos I can get around quickly in it.......and it is great for slicing....

but photoshop is definitely no.1 for developing the professional stuff....

The Dreamweaver/Fireworks combo is the best imo. Add to that Flash and you are set to make some knock out websites.
