Our current logo is http://www.chewnet.com/images/graphics/chewnet_logo125.gif

and we are considering a whole new look to our logo. We still have thoughts about keeping this logo as its been with us since the beginning of our company.

Anyway, just wondered what your thoughts were for a "better" upto date logo? Or just keep this one?

Thanks,
Kind Regards,
Leigh Hewitt.

Well, it does look old fashion in a certain way...
Try to get something high-tech/flashy/(re)fresh(ing) ?
like from DonHost.com (upper-right corner).

Or you can have something simple, easy, but somthing that's easy to remember, something that your visitors will never forget (like McHost.com & Myacen.com).

Just givin' some tips... :)

Keeping your image is very important, and something i'm sure you've worked at very hard to achieve it's credibility.
I'd prefer to 'refine' the original logo than totally scrap it.

DonHost's logo is not quite good example - and I'll elaborate that. Just try to resize the logo so that words "donhost" become size 10pt - the rest of the logo will be unreadable.

Myacen is *highly* forgetable logo, I would say - because doesn't have any symbol, it's just made of font, and nothing else - in order to remember this logo you have to remember the name. DonHos t's logo at least have some symbol - two letters ("d" and "h") that visualy don't represent their semanthical meaning, but together make new visual form, new symbol.

McHost's logo uses fairly simple method. Here color and negative letters give new meaning, and something easy to spot and remember. I personaly have a 'problem' with MChost's logo: I don't know should I read it as a "em" "see" host, or as a "Mac"host.

In Chewnet logo I couldn't find which part is actually logo - small chewnet.com, the Chewnet behind magnifier, or Chewnet at the bottom.

Think this way: what do you want to tell with your logo, what is the message. And keep it as simple as possible. Don't try to sqeeze lot of things into a small poor logo :) Logo doesn't need to show what company is doing (I dare someone to try to show hosting in your logo!). It has to be simple to read (understand) and remember.
Just few minutes ago I was on the website of profilecity.com - profile (color prolfile, that is) is bold, dot-com is not important, therefore is thin, and "city" made of (Photoshop's) swatches -for targeted audience (designers, printers) very easy to understand and remember. Maybe not the best example, but first that came to my mind.

Please, I don't want this to become pesonal - I am really doing this with best intentions. I hope you will make 2% better logo thanks to my 2 cents.
On the other hand, most likely you'll find lot of faults in logos I've done - it's just much easier to look and comment other's work then your own - at least there is no emmotional attachment :)

I hope you'll find something useful in my comments.

Cheers! :)

Much better than the old one (to be honest, I didn't get the connection of the magnifying glass, but didn't want to say anything :D)

heh, many had commented on that, Chicken, through the past. :D

The reason is, during early 2001, Chewnet was still a distributor for bulked packages in Clipart. This was mainly for designers wanting to own copyright to images etc, but as we found our website and graphics department had taken over in the financial situation, we ended up becoming just Website & Graphic Design.

The story continues..! ;)

Leigh Hewitt.
