View Full Version : ripsh!t at 2checkout
okihost 02-27-2002, 11:18 PM I am not sure if this is how it has always been but I setup 2checkout a couple weeks ago to drop PayPal I was using as a reseller now that I have my own servers. So I am checking all the links on my site today and I click the checkout button and low and behold a pop up window for a friggin at home cc and check processor. and guess what if your interested just click the pop up and get diverted OFF my site.. This is VERY bad thing in my opinion and it should be illegal if we are paying for 2checkout to do our orders. Now get this. its not any normal popup this is something beyond porn popups. If you minimize it, it KEEPS flashing on your taskbar. If you dont open it for 1 minute IT OPENS UP BY ITSELF.. This really sucks.. I am going to ask 2checkout about this and if they dont do something.. here i come revecom.. Its just bad business...

It would have been nice if you contacted us regarding the above.
There is no tech support query from you as of 30 minutes after you wrote this post.
We have not authorized any "popups" for any of our pages.
We do not support spam in any way.
How about an email & a URL of this pop up so we can track what is really happening.

Further to my post above...
Why would we allow a pop up that advertises for someone offering a service competing with us? Fact is, we do not offer check processing.
I went to your site, since I STILL haven't received an email from you complaining of this condition, and signed up for one of your packages. (name was "frederf" site was "www.washingmytoes.com" just so you can confirm that) and there was no popup window displayed on our order page.
Now I'm concerned as to what is really going on. Excuse me for being suspicious, but the fact you didn't contact us but chose to start a string and post here...and we are unable to "duplicate" your claims just doesn't "feel right".
Please enlighten us.

Get-Hosted.com 02-28-2002, 12:25 AM I went through your system to the 2checkout part and there were no ads.
option 02-28-2002, 12:28 AM I tested your 2checkout order pages too and had no pop-up windows. You might consider checking your OS startup folder and registry for spyware or adware programs.
Choppy 02-28-2002, 12:30 AM I am also considering using 2checkout.com for my online merchant stuff...
I have been following there activities in this forum very very closely!
Its a good idea before you make a judgment on any company or business at that, make sure you sort it out with them first, or at least send them a support ticket to make sure you tell them whats happening before you slam them in public like that!
I have gone to your site and ordered some hosting without evem putting in one piece of info,, so if you get a blank form mail sript its from me! ( You really should use some sort of code to check if there is anything on the form or not) But when i did get to 2checkouts area of your site it was perfect! no probs at all...
Maybe they fixed it ! But also could be from your previous browsing that you picked up something along the way and has popped up later, while you were signing up for your own hosting!
Anyway this can be the case cause i have seen this problem before! :) :) :)

I'd have to agree that this is a possible (very likely cause) of the popups OKIHost and Tom. Certainly something to consider.
MilkMan 02-28-2002, 01:32 AM Yeah, probably spyware/adware...might be a virus, best to format and start from scratch :)

There is no need to format and reinstall the OS when spyware or adware is found. Unfortunately, I find spyware and adware at least once a month on my system. I suggest downloading Ad-aware from Lavasoft (http://www.lsfileserv.com/) to remove these unwanted and intrusive programs.
Roy@ENHOST 02-28-2002, 03:26 AM Hi there,
I am a user of 2checkout but so far I have not experienced any pop ups FROM them.
Imagine if you are in their position woul dyou popup an ad and scare your client's customers away? By doing so is only asking for trouble.
On the other hand I am quite familiar with scripts.Ive been playing with them since god knows when.
There is such thing as popup after a scecified time i.e.1 min or 3 mins. Some banner ad agencies are doing this.
Another possible reason is ,as many in this thread says, the spyware or adware. You can go to www.download.com to download some adware buster !

If you stop downloading crap off the internet...then you would not suffer from these spam attack programs. If that little free piece of software looks too good to be true...then the chances are...that it is too good to be true. Opensource excluded!

taivu 02-28-2002, 03:38 PM OKIHost - what is said above is most likely causing this behaviour. I assume you are using a Windows machine, so you should first check your hosts file (%windir%\system32\drivers\etc), since there is a nasty lil' thing you can grab when innocently browsing webpages and it will alter your hosts file leading you to suprising places...
okihost 02-28-2002, 04:48 PM I am not honestly sure about this yet I will look into it on mymachine. If I am wrong I am terribly sorry. If you think about it thought and you just setup 2checkout and you get popups for a credit card proccessor and check reader on your credit order checkout it seemed they HAD to be connected. Its the same BS with AOL every time you logon they try to sell you this or that AFTER your allready paying prob the highest price in the country for dialup and have to get 5 annoying pop ups.. Again this prob is the issue if no one else is having this problem.
Jeff Rambo 02-28-2002, 05:28 PM It sounds like GAIN (Gator).
It'll pop up related sites for any type of categories it has programmed into its database.
Go to www.sprintpcs.com or www.attwireless.com ... see if it pops up a cell phone offer. Or go to a generic site that many different companies have a service offering of. If you get a popup for a related site, chances are it's Gain/Gator. I'd go to their site and look for a list of Gain-enabled programs and see if any are installed.
I recently had to uninstall Precision Time, which was a Gain program, and it cured my problem.
genaldi 03-01-2002, 02:12 PM Yep, I have Gator installed on my computer and whenever I go to 2checkout, I get the old popup ad... Gator is a great tool, use it all the time, thank God they don't flood you with popups overall.
Good luck,
David
