I'm getting tired of different location of backslash key on various keyboard. Now, where is the backslash key on your keyboard??

edit: option 3, 4, 5 are weird indeed, but I swear I've seen those before :)

You sure you know your back from your front....methinks it very unusual if your backslash is where your forward slash normally is.

By the way....I checked all 7 keyboards in my immediate office - three different brands - and backslash on all was just below the backspace key and to the right of ].

Mine's to the left of backspace. I think there'll be a lot of confusion between the forward slash (/) and backslash (\) though :)

The poll question is what confused me, not which is which, just which he wanted to know.

Where is the location of backslash key (/) on your keyboard?

Well if he did indeed want the backslash key, then I will say that it is below my backspace key and above my enter key.

There does seem to be some confusion here, so I went for a look over at http://www.w3.org/2001/sw/RDFCore/ntriples/

There it mentions the backslash key \.

That's opposed to the forward slash key /, which on all the keyboards where I am is left of the right shift key.

Sorry for the confusion :). I mean the backslash, the \ key! :D

Mine's a lot weirder...

Got one between left shift and letter Z, and another after the right shift... 2 backslashes... kewl! :)

I'm also tired of the different locations of the backslash key on various keyboards. In my opinion, if the backslash key is not between the backspace key and enter key, it's in the wrong place. I've also seen the backslash key to the left of the enter key.

Ops .. a bit too late to see that :D

Mine is between enter and backspace keys.

Ok, to the right of my right shift key.

Then again, I have another one on the same keyboard on the right of the left shift key, next to Z.

<confusion correction>

All my keyboards are the same, to the right of the right shift key for \ but, in the "old bits box" I found one, its a TI low profile and the \ key is to the right of the enter key, thats why it lives in the old bits box!

im in the uk, all keyboards ive ever seen, except laptop keyboards it is on the bottom left of my keyboard next tp the Z key.

I recognise a Backslash as being \

the forward slash is on the right hand side of my keyboard, to the left of my Right shift key.

I can take a screenshot if you want but almost every keyboard ive ever come across is like i see before me at the moment.

Maybe it varies from country to country.

I'd like a touchsensitive screen, but an external kbrd is fine for me ;)

\ to the left of backspace, / left of right shift, and another / on the numberpad. also a ! on the 1!

Alright, pet peeve of mine.

I don't think that there is really such a thing as a "forward slash".

I hate when I try to do tech support on the phone and I say, "Type blah, blah, slash, blah".

Then they say, "Is that a forward slash or backslash"?

Then I say, "I said slash, you idiot!"

Okay, I don't really say that last part.

"Is that a forward period or a back period?"

Maybe we should post this question on forward slash dot to resolve this once and for all. :)

Same here, it's usually just 'slash', but it does come in handy when someone wants to know where the backslash key is - just to clarify what is being spoken about.

Where the real fun comes in I've found, is when you start discussing brackets - square brackets, squiggly ones etc. :)

Especially when you're used to calling them parentheses, brackets and braces from mathematics. You can confuse a lot of people! :D

Sorry for being non-technical there, squiggly brackets is a common term where I work :)

Its one of these: /

Opposite of a back slash ;)

Since I started using computers it's been called that..perhaps its a regional thing? ie: colour or color?

I would compare it to your hands..you've got a "left hand" and a "right hand", but you can talk about "writing with your hand", when it doesn't matter for which one you write with...on the net, I've only really seen forward slashes, but in the old days of dos (!) the backslash was a useful tool (\) :D

I know an uber geek that still calls them squiggle brackets.

If were using hand analogies, then you should say that the opposite of a backhand would be a forward hand. That makes sense. :)

Anyway my backslash key is between the enter key and the backspace key.

Back slash \ is between left shift and Z.
Forward slash / is to the left of right shift.
