ok.. Hows this for something. On my computer my hard drive sits in a tray so i can pull out the drive and switch between linux, win 98, win200 etc.

Im currently using win200 and got bored so i thought i would try pulling out the hard drive with windows still running. To my amazement i was still able to move the mouse around the screen until after clicking lots of things it stopped. So i put the drive back in and it after a second or two the computer was back to normal.

It amazed me anyway, thought the computer would of stopped dead.

Hehe, I once reloaded a ghost image from within win95, shoved an older image right underneath it.

It took win95 a little while to get quite confused ;)

Hm ... I bet that would even work with Win 98 or even MS Dos 2.11 ...

cheers,

Well you know how almost every manual says dont plug in such and such with the power still in, it just looks like their isnt much you cant plug in with the power on :)

This is because anything that 'ticks' in the operating system must be in RAM. It is more desirable in any program, espicially an OS's kernel, to keep disk accesses to minimum.

More crazy idea: The SCSI specification actually allows more than one host computer connected to a single SCSI bus. Anyone has tried this?

Now what will happen when both computers trying to access a single drive? That would be a real mess :)

My hard drive is set to turn off after 1 hour of no usage. When I return to the computer, I've notied that I can run windows and even some open program for a little while before the hard drive spins up. Whatever is in memory is usable.
