View Full Version : Thawte spamming?

Over the past 48 hours, I have received 3 emails from Thawte regarding their SSL certificates, on 3 different email accounts. And this is even though I have never contacted them (I use a different provider for SSL).

Anyone else gotten spammed by Thawte? I always thought that they were a reputable company, up until now at least.

Are you sure it is not a reseller doing it?

Heh... yeah... they *were* a reputable company up until the day they were bought by Verisign.

Don't be giving anyone any ideas. :D

But seriously though, the other 2 email addresses nobody here on WHT even knows about, so it couldn't have been anyone from here.

By the way, for great SSL certificates with 98%+ browser compatibility for under 100 bucks a year I recommend SSL4Less. :)

Ive been getting hammered with these as well, some are even disguised as me already having started the renewal process.

Hi!

Thanks again for selecting Thawte as your Certifying Authority.
We have successfully completed the necessary background checks,
and issued your certificate.

You can retrieve the cert from your status page at the
following URL:

When I never even started this renewal, others say act now to avoid an insecure site or 'personl emails' suggesting that i go renew my cert before it expires etc.

Hi guys,

I work for Thawte so give me some details on this and I'll be glad to pass it on, as we shouldn't be spamming at all...

The only email you can expect every year is the renewal notice which is sent to the technical contact, but if you're getting mails with different offers etc. let me know and I'll ask what's going on. ;)

Some companies which aren't even affiliated with us have sent similar messages in the past, but I doubt that our reps or re-sellers would do this.

Cheers,

I wouldn't put it past them.
