I've used both and prefer NameCheap. Bad experiences with GoDaddy for me, though I'm sure there are many who've had nothing but good there.

NameCheap all the way :)

Transferred all my domains from GoDaddy to NameCheap, my life couldn't be better now.

I'm no longer worried about my domains being suspended because someone suspected I might be sending spam, or my IP being blocked, or any other stupidity that happens at GoDaddy.

For domain registrations I use ev1, just because of the price, and it's easy to manage the domain, then I don't even have to deal with them until the next year when I have to renew.

Welcome Method202. If you think the control panel at ev1 is easy you are in for a treat at eNom or NameCheap.

Thanks for the welcome! I still think ev1 is the best out of these, as I've registered 5 domains with them and I think they are fine. They also have the cheapest domains without buying hosting as well.

I'd like to...BUT

But they are blocking too many subnet.

I can't do my CC transactions , end up losing a few names due to expiry. what a shame

They banned your subnet so you can't go on their site? Sorry I don't understand exactly what you're saying here.

Many registrars block certain locations by IP address. That is what silhouette is referring to.

BTW Method, glad to see your happy with them since the prices are good. After using over 14 different registrars since 99 I have found eNom is the place for me. Global edit is my friend!

oh!! sorry for confusion.
They won't let me do credit card transaction.

After I entered all my CC details . clicked submit, it said:
"sorry , we have banned cc payment originating from your IP location."

I emailed them, they said, there are too many fraud cases from that location. Fullstop. I can't do anything!!!!:(

what to do?? let the names expired. I was doing a last minute renewal then.

My one domain in actual use is registered and hosted by Godaddy. So far it works well. That doesn't necessarily contradict other peoples complaints.
I decided to give Namecheap a try, since the Namecheap whoisguard is cheaper than the Godaddy domainsbyproxy. So from Namecheap I bought .net and .org versions of my Godaddy .com. How do they compare?
It's hard for me to say which interface is better. Both took getting used to; both were learnable. Information about Whoisguard is under Special offers. They are currently offering one free year of Whoisguard with every registration or transfer. Regular price is $4.88 per year. They offer two units for the price of one. So if everything is the same next year, I can expect to pay an average of $2.44 per domain for the Whoisguard. (Godaddy is currently charging $7.95/year for Domainsbyproxy.
I registered my two domains. The two free units of Whoisguard are provided, but they are not automatically activated. So to keep the spammers at bay it is necessary to immediately apply the whoisguard unit to the domain. I did that, and I set up redirect for my .net and .org domains to my .com. It works.

Namecheap has upper limit of 10 characters for account and password. Godaddy allows more characters.
Godaddy requires obtaining separate account number to access Domainsbyproxy options. Namecheap provides access to Whoisguard within the Namecheap login.
Domainsbyproxy provides a whois-displayed email of domainname @domainsbyproxy.com. Options are to block forwardings, spam-filter forwardings, or allow all forwardings.
Whoisguard provides a long, random letter and number address @whoisguard.com
Email to this address gets forwarded. To thwart spammers there are options to immediately generate a new address, and there is option to select periodic creation of new address. I selected to create new address every two days. In theory Whoisguard's system seems like it could provide a better balance of accessibility and spam protection. I'll have to see how it works in reality.

Exactly. For $6.49 per name year, you get a clean and easy-to-use user interface with an extremely reliable backend (of Tucows/OpenSRS), where on earth can you find a better deal? For users with up to a few dozens of domains, EV1Servers.net is definitely the best option. For serious bulk registrants, eNom is relatively more reseller friendly; but then again, it makes little difference for those with just a handful of names.

As for blocking users from even registering or renewing domains, yes, it's a VERY disturbing trend. More companies are actually scaling back to the domestic market because of their incompetence to fight fraud. Sad.

Fraud is a pretty serious issue in general. Many of these fraudsters are becoming more and more sophisticated. If ev1's sales only comprise 5-10% international yet 90% of their fraud comes from that I do not blame them for such a move

Far and Away NAMECHEAP

The service is much better, just no phone service but godaddy phone support techs know about as much as a 3year old dont believe me call them and ask the if they know what DNS is they will have to put you on hold.

Bob Parsons is an A$$

For the extra .90 cents go with Namecheap there control panel is much easier to use I just wish they wernt affiliated with enom

They also supply free hidden whois with each purchase

There is also a namecheap reseller I have used and they sell at cost 7.98 per reg and transfer

http:// links411.unifiedregistrar.com saves you a buck every reg if you buy as much as i do you see the benefits

Godaddy is pretty bad from what I have heard but I can tell you from experience that namecheap is MUCH WORSE. E-mail were sent to support only to "gee I never got them", that is good support? Only god knowns what people are smokin(or who they work for) The owner will try to assasinate ANYONE who says anything bad about him or his company. Godaddy may be a big company and maybe impersonal but they are real. namecheap is not. I was a big fan up to a few months ago, now I am their worse nightmare. I think there is a lot of hype (and shills) that go on in this neck of the woods.

Rick I am sure I will be hearin from you

I have no ties to either company , I just spend my $$ and its only MHO that I would rather use namecheap over godaddy.

I dont like the 12 step program godaddy makes you dance thru, If I wanted a 12 step program I would stop drinking.

Fast propogation Namecheap beats GD hands down

And I recently had a personal experience with namecheap support and thanks to Richard and Jerry they were able to finally get a transfer request I had alot of trouble doing and yes it was a transfer out of Wild West Domains a godaddy reseller.

I would recommend namecheap to anyone over many other registrars, I currently have 1200 plus domains and most are with namecheap, but I have learned one thing never place all your eggs in one basket.

If you're referring to changing nameservers and the domain name
resolved to its intended site, then namecheap, go daddy, or any
registrar or reseller had actually nothing to do with it.

IF you want to use a registrar that will open your account to anybody who asks for it.......GoDaddy.

IF you want to use a registrar that harbors thieves and criminals....GoDaddy.

IF you want to use a registrar that functions as coconspirator before, during, and after the fact of a crime.......GoDaddy.

IF you want a registrar whose idea of security is "Oh, you correctly guessed the last 4 digits of a single credit card that was used once in this account back in 1987, so you must be the owner of this account and everything in it"....GoDaddy.

I've posted details of the nightmare NoDaddy created for me in another thread (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=376099&perpage=15&pagenumber=1) .

Just call me fed up with this crap.

go for directi, its much cheaper.
ev1's decision to block existing users sucks!
they dont even have a "exempted" feature
where existing users can still reg.

For corporate domains, we use markmonitor.com. Everything else, we've used GoDaddy. Out of the 45+ domains we've had with GoDaddy there hasn't been one problem from them that wasn't our fault (luckily it was just one).

I might try Namecheap for the next couple of domains I plan to transfer away from Netsol...

I always have a question...

What if someone use a Fraud PayPal account and use namecheap and register a domain, later on PayPal realised it and redrawn the money back, it will be a loss to namecheap right?
