They seem very good, their control panel is great! No more emailing registrars to create nameservers etc. I believe they are an accredited registrar.

The only downside is that their site is extremely slow, and their affiliate program..... stinks.

What I wanted to know was, has anyone here ever used their reseller service?

i know this doesnt answer your question, but try emailing them with a few questions and see how long they take to get back to you.

This can give you somewhat of an indication as to what their customer service is like.

Acunett...

I have never used their reseller or affiliate plans - but when I did inquire about them many months ago, I received a quick and complete email detailing it out. The reseller plan did not work for me because, at the time, there was no incentive (aka, profit) between what they were asking for in the reseller plan and just purchasing the domains two at a time for $8.00.

To date, I have purchased MANY domains through Stargate and I have always been impressed with the reliability of their service.

HOWEVER, be sure to read their Registration Agreement. For example, it could become VERY expensive if you let your domain names expire. Their Registration Agreement states:

"We will reinstate your domain name registration solely at our discretion, and subject to our receipt of the initial registration or renewal fee and our then-current reinstatement fee, currently set at US$200."

So if you mess up, and let your domain name registration lapse, you could be paying a very hefty minimum $200 "reinstatement fee."

 BTY... I like your site.

Will they send an email out before it expires?

And..... if we do fail to renew the registration, can't we just cancel the domain and/or switch to another registrar?

Yes, they send out renewal emails. Yes, you can switch to another registrar while the domain is actively registered under your name.

I really don't have first hand knowledge of what Stargate will do when a domain expires. I've always renewed mine promptly.

Just thought you should be aware of what they state in their Registration Agreement.

I think it should be taken in context:

In the event of a charge back by a credit card company (or similar action by another payment provider allowed by us) in connection with the payments of the registration fee for your domain name registration, you agree and acknowledge that the domain name registration shall be transferred to Stargate as the paying entity for that registration to the registry. We will reinstate your domain name registration solely at our discretion, and subject to our receipt of the initial registration or renewal fee and our then-current reinstatement fee, currently set at US$200.

Section 3, fees: http://stargate.com/pages/registrationagreement.htm

I have one domain transferred there, it took more than 5 days but have had no real problems with them.

Good Point, Doug :D

I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV ;)

All I know is that Stargate mentions a $200 reinstatement fee in the same paragraph as, and in the sentances directly preceeding, their discussion of renewal fees.

In fact, directly after they mention the $200 reinstatement fee they state:

"You will be notified via an email message or via your account information when renewal fees are due. Should these fees go unpaid within the time specified in a second notice or reminder regarding renewal, your registration will be cancelled."

I believe that reasonable people (aka - judges) could disagree as to whether the $200 reinstatement fee would apply if the registration is cancelled. So you are right that the $200 may only apply to when your do a creditcard chargeback... or Stargate may have in mind that they can make some extra bucks on those people who procrastinate on renewal fees. I don't know which is right... I don't want to find out.

For me personally, I don't intend to take the risk and let my domain renewal fees go unpaid.

Has anyone used their reseller program though?

Acunett,

Like I said, I've never used their reseller program.

But WAAAAY back in Dec 2000 Stargate emailed me:
The sliding scale for cost is as follows. The amount refers to a pre-paid purchase. You would have one year to utilize the domain years. Keep in mind each domain can be registered for up to 10 years.

2 - 150 = $8.00
150 - 250 = $7.50
250 - 500 = $7.00
500+ = $6.50

Again, this quote is ancient history, so it's probably not worth much. Also, I believe their API requires a Windows server, which leaves me out.

Good luck...
