Are you sure it's two months free?

It says it a refugee special, so I guess that means if I already have a dedicated server (which I do) I can switch to them and get 2 free months.

Not a very good deal, you can get better specs and average (versus 95%) bandwidth from servermatrix...

The Server Matrix Celeron 2.4 looks great, especially since I can get Windows Server 2003 at no additional cost as well as Urchin. I also like the fact that they are part of the Planet.

Also, after a litting digging:
Ernesto Haberli, owner of VIP-hosting and a few other related sites, apparently is a fairly well known spammer who used virus exploits to transmit UCE.
Jim
I need you to do me a favor. You need to verify your information before advising potential customers of ours to beware.
First VIP-Hosting is owned by Pecos Technologies Inc. we are Texas corporation est in 1995.
Second Ernesto Haberli is not a principle or officer of this company.
We purchased an ISP from him back in 2004 and he stayed on until the transistion was completed at the end of the year but that is the extent of his association with Pecos Technologies.
We have assigned to us 120 Class C's and NONE are listed with any RBL or other anti spam resource. We have a strict anti spam policy that we administer very aggressively. So I would appreciate it if you would not chase away potential customers of ours and lastly if you pay 1 month for any of our hosting products you get the next 2 months free.

I did verify my information. Your WHOIS entry was changed *today*, probably before you posted, from the name above to your new contact information.
Please explain that, if you want to be honest and upfront, instead of trying to make it look like there is nothing behind the suspicion (which makes you even more untrustable).

You also have the same physical address as he did while running VIP-Hosting:
VIP-Hosting.com
2180 North Loop West Suite 215
Houston Texas 77018
(You updated the WHOIS to point to your PO box though, probably so it looks different).
If you purchased this company, do you still employ this fellow? Or is he completely gone?

I will give you a few mimutes to think about your actions.
One Avenue Networks LLC is in partnership with VIP-Hosting, Ernesto
Haberli has nothing to do with our operations and never has.
Your actions has caused us to loose several prospects. Needless to say we
are considering legal actions against you and servermatrix, we have
printed and faxed your posting our legal team, they will advises us what
legal avenues to take.
It is sad how so many intelligent individuals will follow the lead of an
idiot and assume they are telling the truth or have their facts straight.

As you can clearly see, the domain information was changed each of those days. Calling him a liar is a low-blow and completely untrue. The domain information WAS changed, indicating you are hiding something.
Since you are responsible for keeping WHOIS information up-to-date, it was apparent that Ernesto Haberli was in fact the owner of VIP-Hosting.com. I am not saying that he is the owner of the company, but according to WHOIS, he was the Administrative and Technical contact for the domain. That can lead you o believe he owns that domain name and thus has some involvement with the company.
Had you simply stated that you hadn't yet updated your WHOIS information that would have been fine, but no, you hide the information by changing the WHOIS record and then accuse the person who brought the information to light of being a liar and threatening legal action against them? The actions you have taken basically prove you are hiding something and I honestly would never deal with your company after this display.

OneAvenue: Can you tell me what ServerMatrix did besides being recommended?
amusive.com
02-24-2005, 07:26 PM
Thank you for posting that Karl, at first I thought I was confused and had seen a cached entry myself, for which I would have apologized. I certainly don't mean to post anything untrue.
There are many companies (one that posts here that comes to mind right away) that were associated with spammers (but are no longer) or have been reformed. There's nothing wrong with it if the company wants to be on the level about it, say "that's in the past and here's why we're not going down that avenue again" and be straight on about it.
Coming to the board and threatening legal action will make people think you're a new CIhost. If I'm wrong, tell me why, show me why, and I'll own up to it. But if you try to hide the fact that you were associated with a company or lie to cover it up it makes you look worse, when you don't need to. Maybe you forgot to update the whois entry... it's possible and people do it all the time, it's no big deal and people here would understand if it's the case.
How you're acting on this board right now is going to lose you business. You have a great opportunity to show what your company is and stands for, and so far you are not handling it well.
Also I have said absolutely nothing about oneavenue in any way shape or form, so I have no clue as to why you're threatening me here and through email that you plan on suing me.

You're welcome Jim. I had a whois.sc silver account to look up past WHOIS information on a client of mine to get data for collections. It seemed to be a waste of $15, since I didn't find anything, but this makes me feel a little better about that $15 now :-)
amusive.com
02-24-2005, 07:35 PM
Haha, I was considering actually paying because I knew I had seen the data, but didn't know what date it had been cached on (if it had been cached).
It's just sad that this got blown out of proportion. All he had to post was "we forgot to update the whois details, we bought the company on blahblah, he's no longer here in any capacity, blahblah" and they would have looked good for professionally replying to the problem, getting things straightened out, and possibly earning a few clients based off that.
Instead another company I made no comments about is threatening to sue me.
Although it should be said the poster from VIP-hosting himself never attacked me or said anything untruthful, perhaps he would like to post again and clarify details on his organization himself instead of letting oneavenue ruin his reputation.
I guess everyone has their own way of doing business though!

Actually, from what I can tell, VIP-Hosting.com and One Avenue Networks LLC are one in the same, or at least have some strong connection. Both their sites trace to the same ASN, 29987. Pecos Technologies on the other hand operates as Net1.net, which is hosted on a different ASN, 30479, which happens to peer directly with the ASN 29987, (it's the only peer for that matter) for VIP-Hosting and One Avenue Networks LLC. Both those ASN's are also owned by Idslonline (argolink.net), both of which list Frolick, Charles as a contact. Frolick, Charles also appears in the WHOIS information.
The address is listed for the ASN's as:
2180 N. Loop West Suite 215
Houston, TX
The other lists a PO Box, but with the other contact information being the same I feel it is safe to assume it is the same address. This is the same address as is listed for Ernesto Haberli, according to WHOIS records, since September 13, 2004 until just a few days ago, where we showed it was recently changed.
What a tangled web... I even got myself confused at times throughout this research. Seeing how vigerously One Avenue is defending VIP-Hosting as well should give you sme idea...

As stated above, threating random people online with legal action for no apparent reason (Maybe to you, but not to any of us) isnt a good way to build up a reputation, If this all is true, please show us excatly what your proof of this is, But currently the facts show the truth, If you have facts of your own, post them and prove it.
(EDIT: I just re-read this and found it to be a little over the edge, I do not mean it in that way, But just going off hard evidence this is how it looks)
