1. I have a reseller account but without my domain transferred there.

2. I have defined the DNS and server aliases as in the manual.

3. When I try to change the URL to cp.mydomain.com:8080 the thing stops functioning. Do I need an IP instead of cp.mydomain.com ?

Hi,

when you redefine a DNS record, it isn't available from
the Internet at the same moment.
You need to wait until it's available (maximum 2 days).
Besides this, have you changed the DNS zone serial number?

In some cases the changes won't available without it.

Did you remember to add cp.yourdomain.com, mail.yourdomain.com, web.yourdomain.com, mysql.yourdomain.com to the DNS record at wherever the DNS is hosted seen as it isn't on the HSphere box?

Thank you for your answers, I have done everything is stated in the user guide, but when I try to change the URL in the main account I receive all the time page not found errors.

Care to post the URL that your CP is suposed to be on?

Just taken a quick look and there doesn't appear to be an A record setup for cp.romedchim.com which is why it's not working. You need to setup an A record for cp.romedchim.com that points to the control panel server.
