View Full Version : directNIC as a registrar, opinions please
Hi...
I did a search for directNIC but didn't come up with any posts that specifically asked about how directNIC compares as a registrar. If you have used directNIC before, would you say that you have had a good experience with them.
I would also like to know if their trouble ticket system is any good (that it doesn't take them weeks to respond). I like a company with good customer service. :)
Also, how would you rate their control panel? Any limitations?
All comments welcome.
Thank you,
Ria
Abu Mami 02-27-2002, 01:19 AM I rate directNIC as excellent. I've used them for about 2 years and have never had any problems. They always promptly reply to technical questions. I started with them because of they're half the price of my previous registrar (register.com), but found that their service is AT LEAST as good if not better.
I must admit that I started to use Stargate and RegistryDomains (enom reseller) because of price. Both seem very good but I don't have enough experience with them yet to properly compare. Initial impression is that Stargate is a little slow in responding to questions (especially over the weekend). Dan of RegistryDomains is great.
My take so far... I'll keep my most important domain names with directNIC, but the others have a fighting chance if they prove themselves.
I use directnic for most of my domains, their support is extremely fast and the other services are great as well. I would say that they are defenitely worth the higher price. It saves you from a lot of hassle.
I started to use registerfly and stargate for a while but now I am about to move my names back to directnic :stickout
diederik 02-27-2002, 08:25 AM DirectNic rocks :D
I used them about 1.5 year ago for a few domain names.
They give excellent service, and have many nice features for the domain.
It's worth the $14.95 :D
Thanks for your opinions. I was unsure about trying them out. I was using Netsol  when I got my first domain. I have also tried Stargate. I think anything would be an improvement over the service I got at those two. :stickout
arun1405 02-28-2002, 10:50 AM DirectNIC also provide hosting options for the members who have registered the domain with them. It costs $15 per year for bannerless hosting for unlimited space.
Does anyone has any experience with it???
regselect 02-28-2002, 01:53 PM I've been gradually migrating my domains over to DirectNIC from half a dozen registrars. I like their control panel, hosting, and redirection. Their POP email is sometimes a little flaky, but actually better than a few paid hosting services I've used.
I have a couple of bannerless hosted sites with them, and have no complaints whatsoever. In fact, I've been running NetMechanic server tests on my sites, and they're consistently in or above the 70th percentile--not bad for $30 a year, all in.
regselect 02-28-2002, 01:59 PM This morning, I submitted a ticket about a domain transfer that seemed to be taking too long. Sixteen minutes later, I got a response from a techie and the email transfer confirmation I'd been waiting for. Bang! Problem solved.
Coincidentally, I was still on hold at Catalog.com's phone support when DirectNIC came through...
:D That's too funny. I hate being placed on hold.
I'm in the middle of tranfering some of my domains to DirectNIC. I wonder if any one has had any bad experiences with them. Anyone?
arun1405 03-01-2002, 04:50 AM The domain registration at DirectNIC is very good but hosting has a big flaw. If you have opted for bannerless hosting and want to upload JPG files, the in-built software at DirectNIC will automatically reduce the resolution of JPG image for making it smaller in size. Though DirectNIC says that it does not affect much, while viewing image on the web but in reality, it makes a loss of large no. of colors in the image.
elleW 03-01-2002, 07:44 AM I had major issues with the URL redirection on a number of names. Although it got resolved, for 3 weeks my names were offline
normaldude 03-02-2002, 04:00 PM I transferred all my domains to DirectNic.com. Never had a problem, and I recommend them 100%.
