We’re a newly started online company operating from Sweden and we sell online services. We’re targeting not only companies with our services such as forums, project management systems and more. In order to save ourselves the hassle of invoicing all our customers, we’re going to implement online payment with credit card.

What we’re looking for is a system which we can implement into our sales site. The customers must not have to login to another site in order to make the purchase. We want the customer to make the purchase right there. It’s however ok if the customer is forwarded to another site, it actually preferable since the credit card proccessing company probably have more secure connections.

The price of the services depends on how many users the customer wants. We’ve got an algorithm for calculating the price. Are there any credit card processing companies that would accept us to forward a description along with the price at the time of the purchase? Or if we gave them the algorithm, and that we only forward the amount of users? This could create some difficulties though if we decide to alter the algorithm.

As we’ve never used online-purchase with credit cards before, some things are still unclear to us. What is an “Internet Merchant Account” and how do we apply for one? Are there any other things we should know about?

Well you need an electronic payment gateway that will have an API. This API will allow you accept and process credit cards via your secure website.

You might check out www.protx.com or Barclay's to see if they can help to support you

Well, an Internet Merchant account is needed to process your credit card transactions on the internet. As already suggested you will need a gateway too, with an API, the API is provide by almost every gateway provider. You will be able to find Payment Service Provider which both provide you a Merchant Account and a Payment gateway at the same time.

Above should be what you will need.
