If I transfered my domain myself to a host's nameservers, do they have the power to transfer the domain to different nameservers of my choosing?

Only those listed as administrative, technical, or billing contacts in your domains whois info are able to modify settings such as nameservers. maxwello filburt1 02-26-2002, 07:34 PM So who should I e-mail if I registered my domain with Network Solutions (I'm the administrative contact) to change the name servers (they need to be at worldnic.com)? You should have a web management account at NetSol, so you can just login, and change those without having to email them.. Pretty easy... filburt1 02-26-2002, 08:25 PM I do, but when I try to change it: . . . Hmm, it just magically worked, before it was giving me some weird error. *shrug* I did send an e-mail to the hostmaster, maybe that fixed it. :) maxwello 02-26-2002, 08:30 PM Originally posted by filburt1 Hmm, it just magically worked, before it was giving me some weird error. *shrug* I did send an e-mail to the hostmaster, maybe that fixed it. :) Yeah, I'm sure that email to the hostmaster did it... LOL  With NetSol, its more likely to be some sort of random bug, glitch, delay, or some other nonsense/idiocy. :) filburt1 02-26-2002, 08:33 PM The only reason I registered with them is because they're a big name, but their web forwarding service is a ripoff even if it were free, it's the slowest thing on the planet  maxwello 02-26-2002, 08:36 PM When a name gets that big, (i.e. monopolistic) it's nearly always a bad idea. Relyc 02-26-2002, 08:55 PM Way back when I got my first domain and was just starting to learn about the internet, I registered it with NetSol (networksolutions at the time), fortunatley, I have long since wisened up and left them for www.stargateinc.com When I was there I had the same/similar error as you, since it had been about 2 months since my last support request, I decided not to even bother, and transferred my domain. filburt1 02-26-2002, 08:56 PM Yeah, I e-mailed them three times about using a subdomain with the web forwarding service, and they didn't reply once. Luckily it's only a 1-year contract, I'll probably transfer to somebody better and cheaper when it expires next December. MDJ2000 02-26-2002, 09:01 PM A lot of folks still register with NetSol and Register.com because they figure the big boys won't be going under. I use godaddy.com now, as I own a lot of domains, they're ICANN accredited anyways, so I think it'll be allright :) Relyc 02-26-2002, 09:08 PM Originally posted by filburt1 Yeah, I e-mailed them three times about using a subdomain with the web forwarding service, and they didn't reply once. Luckily it's only a 1-year contract, I'll probably transfer to somebody better and cheaper when it expires next December. You can transfer at any time and it will just add another year to the expiry date. I transferred only a few months into mine. filburt1 02-26-2002, 09:12 PM Isn't there a charge for transferring a domain (i.e., changing registrars, not changing DNS entries)? maxwello 02-26-2002, 09:16 PM Originally posted by filburt1 Isn't there a charge for transferring a domain (i.e., changing registrars, not changing DNS entries)? The only charge should be the regular registration fee, which will also extend your registration for 1-year. In essence, transfer free, register for 1 more year. maxwello okihost 02-26-2002, 09:21 PM Originally posted by filburt1 Isn't there a charge for transferring a domain (i.e., changing registrars, not changing DNS entries)? I am sure with NetSol there is :) |
