Anybody have any recommendations on a good general-purpose MP3 encoder for the Macintosh? It will be for recording short samples off CDs for use on the Web, so it needs to have some kind of editing capability.

I'm not sure this is considered an "encoder" but have you tried itunes (http://www.apple.com/itunes)

I believe SoundJam is fairly high in the ratings.
