Hi,

If someone was to move to the US from the UK, where would you recommend going?
Is there a state that does not suffer any natural disasters or bad weather?
Also is there a state (or town) that has very low crime rates and a good strong community? (preferably with supermarkets and a Denny's!)

Thanks.

Lancaster, County :)

If you don't live in the inner city, then there's really no crime at all..and we have 2 walmarts within 10 minutes (one within 2 minutes)...Denny's is about 3 minutes away and we have fuddruckers, texas roadhouse, applebees and much more.. :)

Plus, if you like amish..err this is the place to be

Does the US have any original names?! I used to live near Lancaster in the UK.

Which state is it in? What's the weather like year round? Have you ever had any earthquakes or tornado's there?

Are there many pubs? I think you call them Taverns.
I can't really live without my Holsten Pils, Stella Artois and Carling Lager!
Do you know of any British/Irish themed pubs there, so I can get my weekend fix of alchohol!

Thanks.

We call your pubs, 'bars' here. If you wanted bars like that, you could go to rhode island or massachusetts. There are alot of irish(and italians) there. Don't move to PA, it really sucks(or at least south central pa). Move somewhere close to or by a city. There are more things to do, and more people around, which would probably a little bit better for business.

Well, I would have to say that would be where I live, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey.
It's an expensive place, and a populated one. It's close to NYC, but it has more of a country atmosphere (in most places). The worst weather thing that ever happened here in the past 10 years was 36 & 1/2" of snow in 1996. No earthquakes, tornadoes, and it's too far inland for hurricanes. There is the occasional thunderstorm though. Average winter temp would be about 30 degrees F, and about 80 or 85 degrees F in the summer.

EDIT: Btw, low crime rates. I actually can't remember the last murder around here.
Also, within 1/2 hr. of my house: McDonalds (3), WalMart (2), Target, Shop Rite, 2 Malls, 3 or 4 strip malls, countless restaraunts, movie theater (3), Home Depot (2), Bars (a few), just about everything you can think of and a lot more. We even have a strip club. :D

If you want quite a change, move to Waco, TX. Crime rates are very low...there were a total of 4 murders last year. Population is low to middle at 200,000 people. We have most of the perks of a city, a super wal mart, mall, etc, just about every national brand you can imagine. It get pretty hot here in the summer, the average high is probably around 95 degrees F. In the winter, it is fairly mild with most days having highs in the 70s. We usually have thunderstorms in the spring...occasionally tornados in the areas, but other than that, there are no natural disasters...not close enough to the coast for hurricanes and nowhere near destabilized ground for earthquakes. We have a very strong community and support local businesses more than chains, but we do have a Denny's and IHOP and every other food chain. Oh...and mexican food is the best, we have lots of it. Education is great, but good luck finding a job in the computer industry...there is not a single high tech company located here. Cost of living is VERY inexpensive...gas is around 95 cents a gallon currently...houses are for rent about $500/mo, everything is cheap here.

Try this... http://money.cnn.com/best/bplive/index.html

They also have a search where you it ask you some questions on how you want it to be and it will list you the cities that match.

I personally recomand Providence, RI. Not only do I live here but it was chosen as one of the best cities to live in, in the US.

Washington is pretty good. No weather issues... although earthquakes are a concern, last years only knocked my chair over, I was leaning back... :)

In my town, Arlington, crime is very low... except for the odd car theft..

Ann Arbor, Michigan rules!

Money Magazine rated us #5 Best Place to Live in the Nation in 1996, and #11 safest city in 1997.

But not to be biased, safest cities according to FBI's 2000 Uniform Crime Reports.

1. Amherst Town, N.Y.
2. Daly City, Calif.
3. Mission Viejo, Calif.
4. Simi Valley, Calif.
5. Stamford, Conn.
6. Sunnyvale, Calif.
7. Livonia, Mich.
8. Thousand Oaks, Calif.
9. Midland, Texas
10. Burbank, Calif.
