There have been a lot of big hosts with real crappy sites who've redesigned their sites and reduced visual pollution.. but one which still sucks is olm.net.. their old site was horrific.. after 2 redesigns, they still have a sucky web site.

My vote goes to olm.net..

You would think they would pay a designer some $ to built a good looking site, heck, my site is not the best, but it sure looks better than then two.

Reminds me of the old ADDR.COM site years ago, that was ugly, but they have since hired a designer and the site is awsome now.

If you are new to web design it's better to pay someone to design your site for you.

If you can design web sites your self it's a bonus though as you save ££, our site was all designed in-house and it turned out fine.

And if you didn't mention this is a big company, I thought it was hosted by a free host due to the top banner (advertising on own site? hmmm... )

I know this site I am to show you is OT, but I ran across it
tonight looking for hard drive prices, it is the worst I have seen yet, esp for a company site.

I have to agree, the Rackshack website is terrible considering the size of the company. Looks like a School kid has been let loose with FrontPage ;)

RackShack site sucks. Maybe we should offer them our services :D . OLM.net site is pretty good now since they redid it. So, I think it is pretty good. But, IMO RackShack is one of the worse.

And crying all the way to the bank.

I humbly disagree with the masses in this discussion. Why? Because I measure a site on how well it accomplishes its goals...not on pure aesthetics.

Rackshack site is pleasant enough...immediately presents you with their lead-in $99 server....asks why you should choose them (links), and offers you quick link to their product offerings. On the other hand, I don't know why they haven't update all the Cobalt emphasis where they obviously sell other products now. But, we need to be careful how we judge.

Much like a movie....all the critics break it down to the most minute pieces...but it's success depends on simply---does the public like it.

I agree with Incognito in that the RackShack site is effective - however, with better aesthetics it certainly won't harm sales, and should increase them, if it's a good design.

Some people are bothered by any change....and for every person who would praise an aesthetically improved site, there would be a customer whining....I can't find this....I don't like this as well as the old....Why did you change your site.....

Well the discussion is really about site design, not which company sucks the most (which I'm sure ***** would win). But I have to disagree with you because presentation IMO is critical. If your site looks abc basic, you will scare away many potential consumers. Plus I think it also gives the impression that a less competent team is running the company.

Thats cool.

Here is the addr.com site I was talking about a few years ago.

http://web.archive.org/web/19990117004317/www.addr.com/

But they have redeemed themselves and hired a good designer!

I think verio's site keeps getting uglier and uglier, and more complicated. Ten clicks in and you finally see the prices and plans.

I still can't believe that rackshack.net doesn't even own the .com.

Anyway, our site is kinda ugly too.

Rackshack's website isn't that bad.
Olm's website is a far cry from the old one.
http://web.archive.org/web/19961222104712/http://olm.net/

I have a site to contribute though
www.pair.com
They need a little touch up on the design part.
heard they are a big player so no problem in getting a design house to do it.

Apart from the "Web Hosting Made Simple" line on RackShack.net (WTF is up with those colors!?), their site isn't bad at all.
