Hi all, i'm still new to this and i'm learing.......

However, here is my question:

what if your host with whom you've transferred your DNS to goes out of business or something like that...........what' happens to your domain???

I've always wondered about that.

Thanks.

is the domain name under their control? if not just switch web hosts and input the new nameservers at your hosting company

I did not get the idea of the question. If the DNS server is off, you will just have to change them.

I suspect this question is about a registrar going out of business, not a DNS service provider going out of business. I think most beginners don't know the difference, and the two are often bought in a package from the same company.

The term "transferred" is what tipped me off.

I'm concerned about a disappearing registrar too. And not just one that goes out of business, but one that virtually disappears by not having enough resources to do the work it's signed up for. I.e. doesn't respond to requests from registrants or the registry, or doesn't keep its systems running.

It's why I don't like the idea of locking a domain and do like the recent change in registry policy wherein a transfer is considered approved unless the losing registrar actively opposes it.

As I understand it, under current rules, if the registrar simply folds its tent and disappears, the registrant can just go to another registrar and initiate a transfer and when the defunct registrar fails to oppose it, the transfer will go through.

In the meantime, there's no problem, because no action from the registrar is need on a daily basis -- you need the registrar only when it's time to renew. The actual registry is not owned by the registrar.

Now the separate question of what happens when your DNS service provider disappears is much dicier. Until you fix it, your web site doesn't exist. The replies above give the fix, though.
