How much customers do you have ?

Thanks

:)

Before You Ask . . . . .

No, I have not posted in the wrong place.
This has nothing to do with running a web host biz ! ! !
;)

Please vote or post a reply on why you think some host are so successful ! ! !

er those numbers are rather puny.

I had to put 500+ and I've been in business since Oct of 2001! (er, 4 months today actually).

So how many doooo you have? And what's your advertising secret? ;)

Dixiesys' secrets?

I'm a customer with Gary, and there seem to be quite a buzz about this one right now. The fee's extremely affordable, the setup's fast. So is the connection to my account. I'm in Norway and believe me - some of the best US hosts are waaaay to slow for me to use.

Oh, and there's a 300+ post thread at Anandtech that I presume brought in quite a few customers.... ;)

I'm not sure what this poll is set out to accomplish, but I voted anyway.

It's meaningless to compare hosts that charge $20.00/account and hosts that charge $2.00/account (averages). One host may have 10 customers and be pulling $200/mo and another may have 100 customers and be pulling $200/mo. Which is more successful? Who knows. Too many variables.

"Dixiesys" - You have allot of customers but are you making good profit because your hosting seems good and cheap ?

"allera" - Thanks for you post but it was not needed unless it would help the thread!

Thanks

:)

No faster than any other Rackshack server (presumably).

Probably not;)
But,

When I decided on a host I narrowed the field down to four:
- Myacen
- HostCulture
- Aletia
- Dixiesys

I'm sure I could have chosen anyone of those, but Dixiesys was the fastest along with Aletia. Considering what people were saying about Aletia (slow service) I gave Dixiesys a shot after seeing a lot of happy customers at Anandtech.

It goes right along with the question you just asked Dixiesys. :)

I pay my bills, is there much else to making a living? :D

Not all customers pay $3.95, some pay less, some pay more, some pay a lot more, many have multiple accounts or 6 packs (over 1200 domains are hosted by those 500 or so customers). When it's all said and done, I take in more than I spend and have enough left over to keep the rent caught up and the lights on.

I only have 3 servers at rackshack, 2 elsewhere, and the new servers are all going into a colo here local using AT&T and I believe, Bellsouth bandwidth. Two companies that'll be here if no one else survives, which makes me feel good even though I will be paying just a bit more for bandwidth.

We were outside today flying an Elmo kite and doing tech support :D

Then I forwarded the toll free # to my mom's house and we drove out there (in the used van I bought with last month's profits after bills) for a while and my kid and my sister's oldest kid rode all around in his electric Jeep while I sat under a shade tree drinking some tea. Then they played in the big sand box making sand castles, then we drove home, he's napping now, just hope the "un forward" went through.

There's worse jobs.

I just got bored and did this: (don't ask why, I don't even know)
------

Lets say you got the AMD I package from RS. I don't know how much it cost at efreeservers and at DYI for the other 2 servers.

RS:
$1487/year without Taxes.

20GB HD/512MB SDRAM/ 300GB TRANSFER

If ALL people went with your $3.95/month deal.

$47.40/year per domain/customer.

You have 1200 domains hosted on 3 RS servers.

You offer:

200MB/GB for $3.95/month.

-----------------------------------

$56,880(net profit)-$7435(5xserver cost if by RS)=$49445/profit or well lets say annual income.

If you tell me she is making a good income :) Good job dixiesys.

But looking at the package you offer and with 5 servers, isn't that a little too much overselling? Well I know some people don't use that much resources and some do, but I counted 24 clients in each server you might have trouble if each server had a 20GB HD, if they all use their stuff. But this is unlikely to happen.

And by the way, I like to know your secret too :)

Well 5 servers total, 220-250 domains per server.

Yes my target audience are VERY low resource hogs for sure.

Gotta know what you're aiming at.

I've got people paying as much as $40 per month most pay $3.95, some pay $10. One server is reseller accounts only, $10, $25, $50, and $75 per month each.

If I make $25K after taxes I'm good to go. Alabama is such a cheap cost of living. Anything over that is just icing on my cake (I like icing).

Can't wait to get the stereo I've had in storage for 3 years installed into that van :D 1000 watts, 10 speakers, probably better upgrade the alternator I think.

Wow, 1200 domains in just four months! So 300 domains per month or around 10 domains per day. How could you run so fast? How many people do support for you?

HostInspect
02-26-2002, 12:22 AM
Can't be all 10 domains in just one day.

There are those days that you get about 60 domains a day or so, trust me we had once of those days, but I wasn't in duty :(

They got all the fun adding accounts :(

I think the busiest day was 28, lotsa 20+ days, dont' guess I've seen less than 12 in a day except for maybe a sunday or two since Xmas.

I keep telling myself "it's gotta slack off soon, don't get used to the money rolling in like that and hire a buncha people or rent a big office like you're somebody" and every day the orders keep coming.

Just me and Troy with our fingers in the dam :)

Dixiesys - I see that you have allot of customer signups and allot of money rolling in but out of that money rolling in how much is profit that you can actually spend?

Please Reply !

Thanks
:)

About half of it :D

Or a bit more than half. Of course I spend most of it building the business, like a van to take servers back and forth to the data center!

My APC Masterswitch got here today, no docs :( Time to find some PDF's on this thing! hehe

I have a domain that I use just for personal email (coldstorm.com) that is hosted with Gary. My uptime has been excellent, and I feel I'm getting more than my money's worth by hosting with Gary.

I was especially impressed by the welcome email sent out by him when I first signed up. It actually contained all of the information I needed to start using the account. I've seen quite a few others that leave you scratching your head a bit to figure out the ftp address, etc.

I was wondering who dixie is using for the dial up accounts for nationwide phone numbers.

I wouldn't mind offering that service.

kmurrey - I dont think Dixiesys makes most of their $$$ from dialup

 - Not sure though

Would like to know though

I have read with interest Gary's posts and also emailed him twice, and I would have taken a reseller plan from him had I not gone for my own server [BTW I would really like to know how many resellers would go for a ded server with 21 toy accounts pushing 250 megs of transfer/mo [no its not each, its the total usage!]

Basically I think its his technical knowledge plus his open and fun loving personality that comes out from his site and posts

I wish you luck Gary and bahres just out of cusriosity how many polls have you posted so far [now ther is an idea for you to post a poll! j/k]

Cheers
Balaji

I make jack on dialup since I really don' t have the time to advertise it, had I had a clue how successful web hosting was gonna be I'd have never at all bothered with the dialup stuff, but now there's so many friends and family using it that I hate to cancel it.

The next "version" of my web site will probably be missing any mention of Internet access.

But DixieSys! You still haven't told us your business secret!! :bawling:

I'm curious about where you got all those clients from.
Where do you advertise? Did you get them all from forums, etc. ("freeware-advertising") ?
Or did you invest some money in ads too?

Good job anyways... :)

I've spent about $40 in advertising, it didn't seem worth it.

My customers and word of mouth are the majority of it.
