View Full Version : Whats the Google value of your domain?

Just a lil game...

Take your domain, type it in google, and see how many results you get. The number of results is the value of your domain in Google dollars. (BTW, the domain must be .com, .net or .org)

My current highest google valued domain is worth $2,880,000 (Google Dollars :P)

It would be interesting to see who wins.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but if you search for your domain including the TLD on Google, you should get back just one result: the index page of your site. That is, if you search Google for "example.com," you should get just one answer, the site at www.example.com.

So, my answer is 1.

If you mean to search only for the second-level portion of your domain name (that is, search for "example" instead of "example.com") wouldn't you better off getting fewer results rather than more? That would make it more likely that someone searching for that word would find your site.

i think it is just mean to be a fun game, that is type in the portion before the .com/.net/.org and see how many times it appears in various websites, if I am reading it correct.

The more accurate way of determining the value of the name is by how many times the keywords in the domain name are actually searched for.

Magic
02-25-2002, 02:06 AM
yeah, i meant the domain name without the extension.

I know the more accurate way would be to see how many times the keywords in the domain name are actually searched for, but then everyone has already used the the Overture tool to get all popular keyword searches as domains.

Im just interested in how google rates the domain. So far, the most valuable domain is "the" with a total google value of over $2,400,000,000 :D

I don't get it. Where do you see the number of results your site receives? I've tried every combination of my domain and it just provides a link and a couple of lines of text that appear on my page. I'd be interested to see what "value" it apparently has.

I think the rules should be as follows:

If your domain is made up of 2 or more words seperate the words and enclose the phrase with quotes...such as specializedpc.net is entered as "specialized pc" in google.

markblair
02-25-2002, 02:25 AM
Sorry to be a pest but I still don't see a "value" or "results" of my domain. I see the site listed in Google but nothing that "ranks" it. I've included a screen shot of what I see just in case I missed something.

greggish
02-25-2002, 02:37 AM
With quotes my highest scoring domain is HostingForums.com ... "hosting forums"... at $44,600

Without quotes my highest scoring domain is CollegeJob.com ... college job... at $2,310,000

I guess you invented a new type of GoogleWhack for domain owners. :D

Magic
02-25-2002, 02:39 AM
ok, i have made an attachment indicating where your google value is. Remember, dont type the extension... so if your domain is hosting.com ... type in "hosting" in google.

markblair
02-25-2002, 02:41 AM
Okay, got it now. I see the results (which have been there the entire time) at the top. I thought there was some cool feature they may have added that put a "value" on the domain entered. I guess in a way this does. Mine comes up with 489,000 with a space between specialized and pc and only 6 without the space.

SpecializedPC.net would be $472,000 without quotes and $589 with quotes.

I really think you need to put the phrase in quotes for this game or the scores are just too high...and you should lose points for .net and .org

hostjet

I think magic needs to clarify whether or not for the purposes of the game, you type in "your domain name" or just your domain name without the "".

Magic
02-25-2002, 02:48 AM
yeah, you HAVE to have two worded domains in quotes.

.com is worth 100% of the actual googe value

.net is worth 70% of the actual googe value

.org is worth 50% of the actual google value

that means my domain is only worth $1,440,000 :bawling:

greggish
02-25-2002, 02:54 AM
Magic, so what is that $1,440,000 domain of yours?

I went to google to get in on this, and got sidetracked.

For the last 1 1/2 years, one of my more popular retail sites www.talkingpresents.com enjoyed 1st, 2nd or 3rd spot in the majority of its associated keywords. When I searched today, I've completely fallen off the map! I checked over at Yahoo, and I'm in the same place in their directory , but a keyword search (powered by google) doesn't show me at all. Wha' happened??

Further, if I type www.google.com into the address bar, it automatically redirects me to www.google.ca  Huh??

I realize this isn't the right forum for this, but it was this thread that got me going on it...

It seems that for some reason your site's no longer in the Google index -- it has no PageRank value, so that's clear indicator. An update just completed, so somehow it happened there. Is it possible the site was down for a while? I don't see anything on the site that should have caused any problem.

You should probably just write to help@google.com and ask them directly. Something might have just gone wrong in the recent update. But really sites do drop out and come back from time to time for technical reasons that only Google engineers would even have a clue about. If you haven't made any major changes to the site, and considering that there are a number of links to it from elsewhere, it'll likely be back in the next update if not before.

vito

Thanks, JayC.
It must have just happened by chance in the last update. I just don't get it. My site has not been down. I have not changed anything significant in the site. How could this happen??

I have already re-submitted to google. I will take your advice and email them as well.

Geez, of all the search engines to dump me, why did it have to be the one that gave me the most visitors??

In magical Google domain dollars 'akashik' nets $1700
It's 'correct' spelling of 'akashic' nets $19300

'avemedia' on the other hand scored a cool $248 only

Localisation. Google now attempts, through checking your IP address, to determine which country you are in and redirects you to a country-specific Google site if there is one. At least partially, this is because the new CPC AdWords program allows you to choose which countries to display your ad in.

You should be able to avoid being redirected by clicking the "Google in English" link at the bottom of the page. After you close your browser and re-open it you should be able to go straight to google.com -- as long as you have cookies enabled. Or you can bookmark http://www.google.com/intl/en/ and use that instead of just http://www.google.com.

You obviously forgot to apply the TLD Correction Factor ;)

If .com is 100%, .net is 70%, and .org is 50%, what's the correction factor for .info? 10%?

allan

allan is worth: $2,460,000 * .50
data center wire (in quotes) is worth: $644

Since most of my domains are .uk and we don't have a correction factor for that I thought I'd try and see what the highest google valued domains was.

I have so far found that the.com has a value of:

G$2,480,000,000

I found this kind of funny as google (on the front page) says it indexes only 2,073,418,204 pages ;) I know that the number of results is only aproximate but I thought it was kind of funny interestingly the Categories it suggested were Japanese ones!

I don't think anybody will find a higher value domain than this (although someone may) but if you're bored and you've got 5 minutes here's a challenge :D

Only 10% for .info? :bawling:
So, you mean .org is much better than .info?

Cactusblossom.org
As a two word phrase is 1090 * .50 = $545

As a one word phrase is 16 * .50 = 8

Fun game though :)

I agree with JayC,

fewer results mean good ranking. hehe

try searching for "superb logo design" or "building corporate image" and you'll see what I mean.

EDIT: What I mean is Castlemelody only yields few results (Castlemelody=137; "Castle Melody" =57) but gets the top ranking for those keywords with so many search results! (superb logo design = 30,400 ; building corporate image =555,000). Now that's real value!

:)

Of course, the fact that a lot of pages can be returned for a particular search term doesn't mean that many people are actually searching for that term... and terms like those that aren't popular searches are fairly easy to attain good ranking on, because few competing sites are optimizing for them.

But yeah, I realize this "Google value" is just a game and I shouldn't be injecting the real world into it! :D
