Hi -

I emailed your customer service on Wed (today is Fri) with questions about your reselling plans and haven't gottent a response yet. Maybe you could help me and other on this board who may have the same questions about ZeonHost....

What services are available to (re)sell the customers?

Are they the same services available as posted on the "non-reseller" hosting plans?

If so, then are there additional features clients can add?

Can you customize accounts such that you can CHARGE the customer for MySQL access, ASP, etc, as extras?

*** Is there a number where ZeonHost can be reached to ask more questions. *******

Thanks.

There is something wrong at Zeonhost -- I have 2 accounts there that have been unable to connect to mysql or cannot be accessed at all since early this morning. They put up a post some time this afternoon about a problem with a NOC on one of thier machines but I think they have bigger problems. Not sure as my 3 messages to them also have not been returned. Their own message boards are down too. Up until then everything was great with excellent responses.

If you are looking to get even cheaper hosting from Zeonhost by not using mysql I highly doubt you'll get it. At $23 for 6 MONTHS of service that is by far the cheapest I'd ever seen and I'd politely roll my eyes if someone asked if they could knock off pieces and get it even cheaper!!!! :)

The alternative might be to go to directnic.com. I have a lot of domains hosted with them and I have been very satisfied, especially with the domain tools that they constantly improve. Very good service. Additionally, they give you a free web site with ads, or you can pay $15 and get a YEAR worth of hosting without ads. It's bare -- no php (do you really want asp with mysql?), mysql, or cgi. If you want asp/sql or a MS IIS box, you are going to pay for it. I know a number of good cheap hosts but it will definitely be more than any decent unix provider..... all of this, of course, IMHO. :)

The post you are seeing is accurate. Our primary database server is down due to a problem caused by PSoft. A large number of accounts are on that server and are suffering from this downtime. We are working with the NOC to resolve the problem, it should be back up and running within a few hours. All customers on that server will receive a refund, since the downtime exceeded our guarantee.

As for your questions, DavidW, I'm not sure why you didn't receive a response. We normally answer e-mails within 6 hours. I don't see yours in our support system.

The features you can resell include, PHP, MySQL, Subdomains, E-Mail, etc. All are free for an unlimited number.

Yes, you can make your own plans to suit your needs. We have no limits on the prices you charge for them (they can be setup, or recurring).

All support is currently done through our advanced support systems to keep our prices low.

I'll say this just to follow up -- I've got similar interests having signed up for 2 accounts at zeonhost this past week, both not mission critical and more fun, hobbyist stuff. Until the problem with the NOC, the responses for the forums was excellent -- usually within 30 minutes, if that long. Others seemed to have the same experience While I am annoyed with the timing about the servers being down, I've done more hosting to know that sometimes things happen and given the cost-benefit ratio, I'm betting I'll be way ahead with zeonhost. (A suggestion to zeonhost -- you guys should put up the network status pages that I believe was referred to and not existant currently so that people know what is going on.)

The main problem I find with people looking at hosts is that they want almost everything at rock bottom prices. That includes myself being an incredible pain in the @$$ when I was looking to move hosts and wasn't satisfied with some of the variables. I eventually settled on venturesonline for my critical stuff. Cost more than zeonhost but less than most others and they have been rock solid. Far and away the best host for the money when it comes to my more serious endeavors.

My post isn't saying zeonhost is only for low cost solutions -- I'm sure the more you pay the more options you'll have and greater reliability. I've learned to bite my lip and remember that not everything is mission critical and at zeonhost I'm guesing that I'm getting far more than I paid for while they grow their business.

As I said, I am in no way affiliated with zeonhost and just caught their post for being a host less than 10 days ago. I thought that the $23 package was too small of a risk not to take, especially given some other posters' good experiences.

I'm not feeling so great. I registered and paid on Thursday but still haven't received an answer about my site or what is going on. The support has been down for now the second day and my domain is now pointing to empty space at zeonhost. No replies. That's a really long time.

I recommend Zeonhost as a hosting provider, best customer service iīve ever received, and the uptime is great, all until this problem that Psoft caused but i think thatīll be fixed shortly :)

Forgive the numerous questions I'm about to ask, but your offers appear outstanding, and I want to gather more information before I invest. Thanks in advance...

Are all the features available in the "regular" accounts available in the reseller accounts?

e.g. When I setup a resold accout, may I choose which features to include for that plan (e.g. check off PHP, MySQL to include it for that customer)?

Do you carry (standard or extra): ability to run java applets, jscript, vbscript, ASP?

Are resold accounts also under the 30-day money back guarantee (for me and for my customres)?

Is there a price list for the features I can add/not add? And do you have a comprehensive list of features available to resell?

How many email accounts POP and Webmail come standard with the reseller accounts? Or shall I ask, how much does it cost me PER resold email account -- including the price depending upon which reseller plan I have?

How does it work if a customer goes over their limit? Clearly they have no "acutal" limit as I, the reseller, pay for their useage, but can I track their useage so I can bill over the limit? And can I setup to automatically bill them if they go over?

How is the reseller control panel different from the customer contrl panel. And which panel am I looking at in the demo on your site?

Is my main account (my reseller account) just another use of resources on my reseller plan?

Can I use your server info on my site e.g "We are supported by unix servers and have xyz backbone..." (the information that is distributed on your site -- I don't mean to ask about deep dark server secrets)?

Who does upgrades for customers? Does the customer email me? And then I change their plan "in my head" by charging them more and not charging for over the limit?

Can the subdomains point to subdirectories, or do the subdomains all point to the main index page?

Do you support email aliasing? And up to how many aliases?

What does "IP's purchased" mean? Does this refer to actual static IP's, or virtual IP's. Is it safe to assume that without the IP, the customer can only access their site by, for example, www.customerssite.com?

Must I legally notify a customer that I am a reseller?

May I use your company's legal statement as a template for a legal statement on my reselling site?

Thanks in advance for your patience and your answers. I know this would have been easier to ask on the phone, but I understand that this method keeps costs low. If nothing else, at least this information will be available when someone else asks in the future.

Thanks,
David W

JCarlos. I would agree with you but now we are finishing up on 2 days straight downtime and moving onto a third straight day of downtime with no information other than resolution is being attempted. That's pretty severe.

What is PSoft? and what is the NOC?

Thanks.

The server is back up now. The downtime was due to DOS attacks. The total time was just over a day, which we're very upset to report. But it by far, was not two days, going on a third.

PSoft is Positive Software, they make our control panel. A NOC is a Network Operations Center, it is where the main operations go on for the data center.

Actual Downtime =

(Perceived Downtime) *

(Frustration Factor [usually .7 to .8]) *

(Unknown Reason for Downtime Factor [usually .05 - .2 depending upon length of downtime])
