View Full Version : RaQ3 - Domain Setup.
-Edward- 12-10-2000, 01:02 PM Hi,
If i'm having domains share 1 ip do i add this one 1 ip to all accounts or leave the ip part blank if i'm using just 1 ip?. When it asks for the domain ip on setup of a new account.
brainbox 12-10-2000, 02:20 PM Words coming from a raq point of view.
When we setup a new virtual domain name on a raq, we need to add the ip address at the top of the form, so that it knows where to go to. Also consider that we run our own DNS, so our DNS needs to know where to find the site, so we setup the DNS info on our server to point to that ip as well.

Chicken 12-10-2000, 03:08 PM Yes, certainly not blank. Set it to your one IP. DNS should also be set to that same IP.
cisites 12-10-2000, 07:55 PM I'm having a slight problem getting a 2nd or 3rd domain to work on my server. The main acount works fine, but I've tried to put 2 more on the server and they don't work. i can FTP into their accounts, but I just get page not found errors. I have the DNS and IP's set up correctly and made sure everything was the same on the 2nd and 3rd doamins as the 1st, but no success. Any ideas?

Any ideas? i got the same problem - running on my own dns... i decided to use tera-byte's dns control instead - which hopefully would be done by tomorrow
cisites 12-10-2000, 09:42 PM Unfortunatley, I'm using the tera-byte DNS, so I doubt you have much luck. Anyone that's succeded in this have an opinion?
sigsys 12-11-2000, 12:42 AM I am using Tera-bytes dns for my raq3, and it is working great with 6 domains. It did take about 48 hours for all the sites to come online though. (DNS entries had to propogate) You also want to make sure that you add an A record for the "www" .yourdomain.com as well.
Good luck,
Johnathan
Chicken 12-11-2000, 01:24 AM Time issue. Just give it a bit of time 24-48 hours and all will be well. Changes aren't instant.
Tip: If you are going to do subdomains for a domain (and even if you aren't), wildcard the domain to the server IP address. This way you can set up subdomains on the server and they'll resolve instantly. (You have to wait for the wildcard to take effect - the 24-48 hours, but after it does, you'll be able to set up subdomains instantly).
eva2000 12-11-2000, 01:44 AM well for me it's been 3 - 6 days... only the main domain and 1 other domain site works the others don't. I am not so much in a hurry but would like to rolling...
Chicken 12-11-2000, 03:45 AM Errrrr... 3-6 days sounds like something is amuck.
eva2000 12-11-2000, 03:48 AM yeah... it could also be my ISP not updating their dns ?
Chicken 12-11-2000, 03:59 AM I suppose, but it seems like others are having the same problem and to be honest I never really was sure of how to set up DNS on the RaQ and luckily didn't have to. Tried on a friend's once and was 'very close' as he said, heh. Very close tells me that it wouldn't have worked. :(
cisites 12-11-2000, 08:46 AM I've also been waiting over a week.
Chicken 12-11-2000, 10:29 AM cisites, so you've DNS'd the domains using the other DNS server. You've put the IP address of the server (or the IP address of the site, if you have dedicated IPs for the sites?) for the domain and added an A record for 'www' as well? You've set up the domain on the server with that same IP address?
If you want, email me and I'll be glad to take a look and see if maybe you missed something or there's some BLARING problem of any sort with the DNS and the site setup. I don't know though, sounds as if you've checked it, but...
*nearly out of ideas*
eva2000 12-11-2000, 10:34 AM someone should really come up with a flash step by step illustration of how to setup the dns of a raq server...
Im working on it as we speak, at the end of the week i should have that for you
Steve
brainbox 12-11-2000, 01:44 PM Heres the url of the info that I used to setup the dns on my raq3.
http://teamcobalt.interliant.com/faqs/setupdns.shtml
I followed it exactly and it only failed one time where mail sent to support@mydomain.com would fail but when sending to support@www.mydomain.com would work. We deleted the dns record and recreated it and it worked fine.
So just follow these instructions on that page and you should be able to setup your own dns on your own raq3.
Hope this helps,

Chicken 12-12-2000, 09:51 AM I *think* that is what I used as well, blah. That's what got me *close* :)
raylin 12-13-2000, 02:02 PM What's the difference between the steps to set up a IP-based site and a Name-based site if I turn on DNS on my RaQ4 server?
WITH and WITHOUT a PTR record ?
