I am seriously thinking about spending some money on good opt-in list emailing (not crappy ones that will get me a ton of SPAM complaints). First of all, has anyone had any success with this? and secondly, do you look at opt-in mailing as a bad thing or a good thing? I have mixed feelings on the subject but I figure that opt-in means that the people are asking for the emails because they are interested and I would never use a company who does not incorporate a link at the bottom.
Let me know.
Thanks!

Bad thing. Do you really think everyone on those list wants your Spam ads for hosting?? If even one person on a list of 10,000 addresses did not want the e-mail, then it was UBE.
Almost all opt-in list are nothing but harvested addresses anyway. Once they get your money, they could care less if you get shut down for Spam.

I prefer staying away from opt-in list emailing because:
1) It doesn't get you targeted visitors to whom it's easy to make sales. Untargeted random visitors are almost useless.
2) It still put you under risk that being complained as a spammer since people who receive emails don't know you and even don't remember where and wether or not they were opt-in.
3) Think of it this way... wether or not you like to read hundreds of opt-in and none-opt-in emails, how you feel when you see several ten or hundreds emails drop in your mail box each day, and how many times you have purchased something referred by opt-in email...
So, don't throw your hard-earned money into water!

Waste of money!
Been there and done that.

See I have done newsletters before (which is way more targeted) and have always done well with them. We generally get our money back after 5-6 mos of advertising. But thanks for the info, I am not going to do opt-in unless I can find something very targeted.
