You mean full domain or sub domains? You cannot get any free domains, you will need to pay for them but for subdomains, for eg if you own abc.com, anything.anyotherthing.abc.com will belong to you.
This is known as subdomains.

I havent seen one that offers subs off of mainstream .com domains; please post the resource if you find it.

Most subdomain providers want either a re-direct or a popup in return.

You can try what I use to use - the old .us system. Before it's current form the different locales were administered by regional admins. You could find still some domains in the form:

foo.locality.state.us

FWIW, C

Unless you describe what you're trying (or want) to do in more detail.... NO. :)

some host don't offer addon domains via cpanel because they can be quite buggy. If addon is available, dont' expect support from it. Usually, when there is problem, just reinstall the addon domain. This usually fixes the problem.

Can those local-bound .us names still get registered ? Do you need to live in those places to register one ?
I once started a topic on this, but not much usable reactions back then...

Though we must say as well: two ccTLD's can be registered for free. The notorious .tk (though a free .tk has very limited possibilities) and also .com.ru
I'd go for .com.ru if I were you as that has all features of any other domain, while .tk is very limited. .com.ru can be registered without restrictions at www.ripn.net

I remember having delusions of grandeur regging names under local us names.

It really depends on the locality and the admin tasked to handling the registrations. I was able to get jazz.new-orleans.la.us and I dont live there.
