I have a very important, simple , crucial question

where should we buy(register) domain names so that we can guarantee the owner ship and awoid malicious usage ?

Shall we register domains from any hosting company or does that hosting companies may steal our names.

Is it sufficient to just buy Domain names from ICANN approved place?

what is the most official and reliable way of registering domain names ?

which websites (registerars) do you use ?

Can you just Clarify ?

Thanks.

You can register your domain name just about anywhere. If you
want to guarantee the ownership, make sure the registrant:

1. Is a living person or entity (company, non-profit org, etc.).
2. Is under either your name, your holdings, or whoever is really
supposed to own the name.

Whoever is listed as the registrant is the legal owner, no ifs ands
or buts.

If you're going to get your domain name from a hosting company,
read their legal fine print/s because in many cases:

1. The domain name might be registered under their own name
instead of yours.
2. They might impose inflexible arrangements if you decide to not
use them to handle your domain name/s and/or their hosting.

Although not required, it's advisable to get the domain name thru
an ICANN-accredited registrar because they'll be accountable to
ICANN should problems occur. Although ICANN doesn't necessarily
get involved in individual customer complaints, they'll make sure
the registrar toes the line.

From these threads, you can get it from registrars such as NetSol,
Go Daddy, eNom, Moniker, Name.com, etc. or from resellers (many
cases actual hosting companies) like Registerfly and Namecheap.
Take your pick.

Now since there are lots to choose from, perhaps these guide
questions can help:

1. What do I intend to do with the domain name/s?
2. Does the registrar or reseller have items that suits my needs?
3. Is the legal fine print/s acceptable to me?

Re: 3: all registrars and resellers have certain items many people
may find unpalatable, but many are there for a good reason or
two. Just ask.

Do your research carefully and thoroughly. Then once you made
up your mind whom to go to, make sure you've decided who'll be
the registrant: the registrant is arguably the most important part
of the domain name record.

After getting the name, make sure only the authorized person/s
can access the domain name and are responsible enough to keep
that info and the domain name safe, active, and paid. Make sure
the log-in info is something only they can possibly discern and no
one else (i.e. make your password a letter, number, and other
character combo like a1b2c# as well as the answer to the security
question you choose).

Hoping this helps.

Thanks very much for the information.

However i need some practical advice like
where to buy.
You said: NetSol,Go Daddy, eNom, Moniker, Name.com or other

but which one ? I am curious about this becouse when I check the prices it goes from 5$ to 15$ so if this is a standart procedure why the prices vary?

does that mean that most expensive is the most reliable one?

whom do you work with ? and what are the strenghts and weaknesses ? in practical sense

thank you.

Dun get the $5 ones, these are losing deals , the companies would have to cover back by selling you some other services, get a middle range pricing, safer for you.

For me I work with WebCC and Opensrs , WebCC because they are prompt and in my region, Opensrs is one of the leaders. about US$10/year for domain fees. If you are in the South East Asia region I would recommend WebCC, if not strongly recommend Opensrs.

I have hosting and registry with Godaddy. I have no serious bad experience with them. Website navigation may be less user friendly than some. They offer optional privacy protection (domains-by-proxy). Godaddy charges more for that service than Registerfly does. The Godaddy privacy option allows several user-selected chioces that can be reset at will. They can forward all emails, they can forward spam-filtered emails, and they can forward no emails (the default). Getting initial control of your domains-by-proxy can be a little bit of a frustration, because it won't recognize your account name and the access number to domains-by-proxy is different from your Godaddy account number. So you will probably need to request that it be sent to your email address that they have on file.
I don't know whether Registerfly's cheaper privacy service has the same options.
Godaddy has a stern abuse policy and a reputation for enforcement.

At the time I started posting to this board and needed to choose a nickname I was Yahoo customer.

Not necessarily. You'll be the final judge of that.

I've worked with NetSol, Go Daddy, Omnis, quite a few, and lately
Name.com.

Some questions:

1. Where are you based?
2. What do you need aside from the domain name?
3. What do you intend to do with the name?

well of course the basic motive is do a quick survey for my self ans of course ý am willing to share the results here and other forums.

after I get a few names I am planning to run pages on some of them. obviously up to now I had some deals of buying domains and renting some hosts however they were not for my own projects and there was not enough time so I we just picked up some quickly

sooo I intend to make a web site to share some IT knowledge (as intermediary) and some personal page bla bla bla...
