Hi All,
I have learned here that when a domain name registered at NetworkSolutions expires:
1. First they will put it into REGISTRAR_LOCK for 35 days
2. It will get into PENDING_DELETE state and stay there for 6 days
3. Domain is DELETED...
The question might sound a bit dumb, but I am just trying to make sure:
At what point does this domain become available at SnapNames in this sequence? 2 (as soon as it is in the PENDING_DELETE state) or 3?
Also, what is the exact procedure once it becomes available? Do they send an e-mail to me (I backordered it already) saying that the domain is acquired. At this point, I will get it if no one else backordered it I guess, but if someone else also backordered it then how long does it stay in the auction? Basically, how long is this auction?
Appreciate your help...

Hi dcabbar.
Unfortunately you got your details mixed up somewhat. But this
will help clarify:

That part is correct.

If the expired domain name isn't renewed by then, they'll use
their partnership with SnapNames to see if anyone has made any
backorder thru the latter.
If after 3 days they find no takers, they ask the Registry to delete
it. So in essence, NetSol will keep an expired name for 38 days.
(Check their Service Agreement, it's there.)
Next, the Registry will keep that domain in Redemption Period (for
.com and .net) or Pending Delete/Restorable (for .org, .info, and
.biz) for 30 calendar days, giving the registrar one more chance to
get the name back, though at a higher cost (in turn, the registrar
gives the last registrant one last shot at it). If not redeemed by
then, the Registry will switch it to what you stated earlier:

Actually, it'll be in Pending Delete for 5 calendar days. Then it'll be
released to the public on its 6th day at roughly 1-2PM EST.

When NetSol finally checks with SnapNames to see if anyone had
backordered it, SnapNames will see if only one was made. If so,
then the domain name will be transferred to that person, the card
of that person is charged $60, and SnapNames will notify him/her
via email the domain is his/hers, roughly 3 days or so.
On the other hand, if more than one person backordered it, then
the domain enters an auction. I'm not sure, but I think it's after 3
days also that a winner will be declared and the domain given to
that winner, being notified again via email.
Check with SnapNames to be sure.

I must say they do things quite fairly typical of big registrars, at least they don't let Snapnames hold back all the domain names.

then, if i want to get a domain that is registered in network solutions, the best company to backorder (in that case) is snapnames? or anyway is recommendable to use multiple companies to have more possibilities to get that domain?

You best use SnapNames if:
1. The domain name has expired,
2. The expired domain name hasn't gone beyond 35 days after its
expiration, and:
3. The domain name hasn't been placed on Redemption.
