I need a new host for my site; it is PHP-based with a vBulletin forum (vBulletin does not use flat files). It needs PHP4, MySQL, 100 MB disk space, 10 GB/month transfer, and based in the US. Most importantly it needs to be at the very most $10/month, which as you can imagine is killing my searches. Any good hosts that meet these requirements?

Tera-Byte offer a plan for $9.25, which includes all that and more, although they're based in Canada. I don't see how that makes any difference though -- they still charge in US dollars, and speak english. ;)

Also do you really need 10 GB of monthly data transfer? I've seen a lot of people say "I need at least 5 GB", and then they don't even use half a gigabyte per month.

I think that the price is $9.95 if you pay bi-annual
Anyway, check their site :)

vBulletin takes up a lot of bandwidth, so I'm anticipating that I can have about 30 online members at a time to fill up the bandwidth.

I think I remember people saying bad things about them, any comments or experience?

We had a site up a while back (special event, now closed) it was online for 2 months. It had around 35 active users on average. Sometime peeking to 60. It used around 4.5GB - 6GB per month that was with gzip enabled. Not sure what the usage would be without gzip.

THey don't even mention data transfer on their site... And we all know theres no such thing as unlimited-sized hard drives :) You might try www.phenominet.com too, and I've heard great things of tera-byte :)

Yeh, phenominet.com looks to be great... The only problem, I found is the inability to use our CGI scripts freely. Check out www.hostdepartment.com also; it seems to be good enough.

phenom is excellent, and they will let you use cgi scripts as long as you verify with them the scripts first. This is a real pain in the @$$ but i think its fine for the great price and support :)
