Machine34x 02-09-2005, 11:24 PM do you guys do special arrangements if I needed more bandwidth and pre pay?
chavvon 02-10-2005, 12:12 AM we can do anything. Let me know what you need and I'll put together something for you.

dabystru 02-10-2005, 04:52 AM If I ship the server directly from the vendor to you, will you be able to do some hardware and software configuration for me (e.g. replace hard drive, install Fedora Linux)? How much that would be?1 hour hardware replacement guaranteeWhat do you mean here - will you replace hardware in my server? Do you have a stock of hardware parts available? What are the prices?
chavvon 02-10-2005, 08:59 AM We charge $25 to install and OS and do basic configuration on new servers.
We have basic parts available like CPUs, hard drives, etc. The customers that use the 1 hr replacement send spares for the key server components.

CS
Machine34x 02-10-2005, 08:15 PM before I send u the Pm got some more questions you could answer here on the forums..
1)Say I wanted to colocate a windows 2k3 box (1U) and wanted you to perform some configurations and software installs. Would that cost $25 or would there be a different fee? If there is a different fee then what exactly does the $25 cover?
2)You say Colo4Dallas, according to this thread here the 100mbps is only offerd on the 1,000gb offer. Maybe you have a special arrangement with them??
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=2856175#post2856175
chavvon 02-10-2005, 08:19 PM 1.) $25 covers basic configuration of Linux OS. About 30-45 minutes of time. When it gets complex and we have to bring in a high level tech and spend over 45 mins, it's charged by the hour at $60/hr in 15 min increments. If you just wanted us to load software we'd give you a flat price. We're flexible.
2.) You asked me what datacenter I was in. That has nothing to do with the network, tech support, security, etc. Our equipment is physically in the Colo4Dallas building. We have nothing else in common. We're not reselling their products or anything. Our network is colocated in their building, that's it....Make sense?
Regards,
CS
Machine34x 02-10-2005, 09:42 PM 1) Alrite so lets say I wanted you guys to setup Remote Desktop on win 2k3 as well as install the operating system. How much for that?
2)In that case who is providing your bandwidth for your network in Colo4Dallas DC.
chavvon 02-10-2005, 09:56 PM 1.) We'll do all that for $50
2.) The network questions was answered above...dual feeds from Yipes.
Regards,
CS
Machine34x 02-11-2005, 11:39 PM do you offer a remote reboot?
chavvon 02-12-2005, 02:30 AM we have remote reboot, but we're all sold out right now. We're waiting for the new ones to arrive.
D3m0n 02-12-2005, 08:32 AM for irc what kind of filter you offer? What can we expect ? Is a real Filtering of all ddos attacks? (As i know need many many $$ ?) Or is just a software?
You use any of Netscreen, Cisco Guard or TopLayer?
Thanks
chavvon 02-12-2005, 09:11 AM We use a Netscreen firewall for our IRC customers.
CS
D3m0n 02-12-2005, 03:34 PM I heard (my topic this week) that TopLayer is better than that. Would be possible someone to use that?
Thanks for your time
D3m0n 02-12-2005, 03:37 PM something else, you have dedicated servers? or we can buy from you a server and colo it there?
As i am outside US is difficult to send server..
Machine34x 02-12-2005, 07:22 PM thanks for previous responses
also do you have any test ips for the clients who host game servers? or can I go to them for some direct info on how they like you guys as I would want to colocate boxes to run game servers and require top notch bandwidth and network uptime
chavvon 02-12-2005, 08:51 PM D3.....we've made some large investments in security, so we can't just change platforms. I can say that Netscreen has been very good to us for 5 years. I've never used TopLayer.
Machine34, send me an email to chavvon@vigilantix.com. I'll put you in touch with some of our gaming customers.
Regards,
CS
Machine34x 02-12-2005, 09:02 PM Will do
D3m0n 02-13-2005, 09:03 AM about my question in dedicated servers? Can we get from u a server and then colocated it to you again?
Thanks give us info if possible
chavvon 02-13-2005, 11:08 AM Sorry D3....We do not have dedicated severs, but I can get you a really good deal on a server for you to purchase. Email me your spec needs to chavvon@vigilantix.com. I'll take care of you.

godong 02-14-2005, 04:36 PM This guy are providing really awesome network, I have no complaints whatsoever, the uptime have been great so far, and I'm considering to colocate more servers with them.
skr hosting: 1 - 2u are the form factor for rack server, it is the dimension of the casing used by the cpu.

ofcourse I just wanted to know what that guy uses his servers for :)
chavvon 02-15-2005, 10:29 AM sorry...I thought that was for me. He's a gaming customer I believe....he'll confirm.
richd111 02-16-2005, 01:28 PM I'm a gaming customer, and I have nothing but good things to say regarding the bandwidth or uptime. I have one VERY demanding server there now, and my other server is on the way right as we speak.
Chavvon is also very accommodating for special requests and very flexible. Just ask him, and he'll come up with something for you.
BTW, Chavvon, this is Toxic Waste :)
Rich
Machine34x 02-16-2005, 10:07 PM thanks for the heads up...mind if you PM me some game servers IPs I can do some testing on?
richd111 02-16-2005, 10:47 PM I guess I don't have authority to PM.
I'm running a UT2004 32 man ONS server. 66.17.remove252.2
Remove the remove. Who knows what's combing the internet these days :)
Machine34x 02-18-2005, 05:38 AM can i get that IP again
latefreight 03-01-2005, 05:23 AM 66.17.takethiswordout252.2 Happy? Anybody run a Counterstrike or other HL based mod server out of Vigilantix? I dont have UT2004 to test with.
Dean G 03-07-2005, 08:17 PM I have ran a CS server out of Vigi for about 6 weeks now.
I moved from a well-known dedicated host to Vigilantix, where I put my own server in with Vigi's colo program. My community of CS folks have mixed feelings on the move. We have players from all around the country, a pretty good blend of both coasts and the midwest. That's one of the reasons we wanted to stay in Dallas, all ISP's seem to merge there, and ping's are fairly even from both coasts. Overall, about 80% of our community saw similiar or better pings/latency with Vigi's Yipes backbone versus our previous multihomed provider. However about 10-20% of our community experienced large ping increases, enough to be noticeable with their gameplay, and most of those folks have dropped playing with our community. When we investigated the folks that had problems, there seemed to be patterns with certain residential-based providers, so my best guess is the peering utlimately breaks down in certain markets/providers with the yipes network.
The above sounds kinda negative, but it is not. My experience with Vigilantix has been satisfactory. Their service is good, and they respond within a reasonable time period to requests for service and questions. The cost savings I have experienced since moving to Vigilantix from my previous provider, have ensured that I can continue to fund our game-playing community for the future. Overall, within the game hosting world, most of us are hobbyists, and Vigilantix makes very good economic sense for hosting servers on a tight budget.

JustCJ 03-08-2005, 08:31 PM Wow, what a review.
I was considering them myself a few weeks ago, but they never replied to my email asking for more information (sent to sales@vigilantix.com).
latefreight 03-08-2005, 09:24 PM Chavvon is a busy man, give him some time. But yea, that review does it for me. Im sold for Vigilantix, will place order later this week when I finish building my new shiny 2U.
chavvon 03-08-2005, 11:22 PM JustCJ. If I never responded to an email you sent, I apologize. Please email me and I'll answer any questions you have.

JustCJ 03-09-2005, 07:24 AM Thanks Chavvon, will do.
