Hi all,

It may take a few days.

Host quote is being slowly phased out. Obviously, that doesn't really work in your advantage. Also, reportedly, the # of responses varies with the type of request.

You should be using HostVoice instead of host quote as its being phased out as said above.

Suppose to be moving towards HostVoice integration... it's being worked on apparently.

perhaps your request was not achievable?

There are some funny requests on there:

1 TB Space and 1000 TB BW for $10 a month

lol monster, and even requests for a dedicated server for free! :roll2:

my request was resonable i guess, $25 for 5GB space and 50GB bandwidth, is that not possible to offer?

It's tad abit on the low side :stickout: . You should consider upping your budget.

I don't think his request is so bad. Most of the requests are like 100GB for $15 lol.

I am surprised you did not get slammed with offers for a request like that.

Maybe your post got lost somehow and it did not get through. Why don't you try it again. I guarantee there are several hosts who would work with you on a request like that.

thanks, i guess i will submit the host request again, i'm sure it got lost now :(

i've been with many hosts for the past 3 years so i know a decent host would offer me a good package with that price

I think I can see the problem.

You are basically demanding SSH access, which many hosts do not give. There is actually very little reason for a reseller with WHM and Cpanel to need SSH access.

Many hosts do not offer SSH access and it's normally not negoitable. And it may not necessarily be because of anything to do with you. I personally do not even have SSH access turned on for any of my own personal accounts.

Many hosts do not offer SSH access and it's normally not negotiable. For the right price and the right motivation for the need, pretty much everything is negotiable. Usually. :)

With some people I suppose.

But I know lots of hosts that put the stability and security of the current customers before the almighty dollar a new customer that could risk that would bring.

I didn't mean for it to sound like anyone can be bought. I meant to say that if one makes a very good case for it (including a right motivation for the SSH need), chances are that the host will understand. The customer might be required to send in a copy of his ID etc.

I agree though, there are hosts that will not negotiate on this, no matter what.

The reason why there isn't any good replies on hostquote is there is barely anyone left who uses it. They no longer accept new members and most old members have their membership expered and cannot renew.

so where should i post the hosting request, could any1 tell me please?

also the reason that i need ssh is to perform regular backup on my site, and basically its just make my job easier, thats all. As i mention, if required, i can fax my driver licence over, and also they can call me to verify anything...

That's weird :P How many quotes have you received thus far?

conanqtran, what you don't understand is that many hosts will deny you SSH access not because of what you may do, but because of what others who can gain access through YOUR access and what they may attempt to do.

I made the mistake once of allowing SSH access (jailed shell) to a client who was also a friend. Several weeks later he happened to notice that there was a weird file called bigdict just above his public_html directory.

After reading his bash history, it turned out that a script kiddie had gotten access to SSH through his account, planted the dictionary file and uploaded a bunch of nasties to my tmp directory. Luckily he could not execute those nasties, but it made me uncomfortable enough to have my drive reimaged and all accounts restored from backup.

I am sure that there are hundreds of hosts with similar stories. There are just better ways of doing backups than using SSH. In fact, Roy from CpanelXP wrote one that is a php script and needs no ssh access at all.

SSH access is a hotly contested topic, on both sides of the fence. Although it's true that 99% of Clients do not need it (or understand it) there are the few that do.

Whether it is provided under any circumstances is the prerogative of the Hoster. With that said, we have found that after establishing a working relationship with a Client, usually after 30 days or so, both sides feel more comfortable in discussing SSH acccess.

And for those like me, that had not heard of HostVoice before or familiar with it, it is not a Forum within WHT and is a seperate Domain. ;)

well, lets drop the SSH topic here guys ;)

i've recieved couple of offers so far, both seems to be good, i think i will just wait for 1, 2 more days to decide on which host to go with.

1. Dailyhosting
2. Hostgator
3. Revoserve
4. Thenuke

Not familiar with neither of them but Hostgator seems to be the biggest...

I submitted a request, a VERY reasonable one in fact. Let's see what kind of offers i receive.

few days pass by and i'm not getting any more offers, kinda dissapointed :(

so tell me no hosts could offer 5GB space and 50GB bandwidth with $25/month?

i did try post it again, oh well, this time i won't post it again, i think its useless... I will just have to look harder on this forum, read reviews on host etc...

Search around and find a host you think looks good, then search reviews them. Thats the best method. Its really to bad that WHT decided to cancel HostQuote, it was a great service. HostVoice is not up to par with hostqoute IMO.
