For comparison:

lynx -dump http://www.webhostingtalk.com

--> real 0m0.863s

Not a very fast connection.

It looks like it's capped at 30 KB/s. Ping times are 250-300 ms with a couple of packets lost. Takes me 21 hops to reach it.

It looks slow and far away: 23 hops and a ping reply of 371 ms.

average ping of 254 ms here in NC. About 8 seconds to fully load with my roadrunner cable modem.

I couldn't download anything faster than 25kb/s on my cable modem.

Took around 10 seconds to load through ISDN from the UK.

Ping average 377ms.

Tracert 23 hops.

Acks! I hope you're not paying for this hosting. Took about 15 seconds for your page to load up. I'm East Coast USA on 1.5Mb/sec DSL.

Cable modem/same city 13.5 seconds./same problem.

which program do you guys use to test the no. hops etc.?

I open up a command prompt in Windows and type in:

tracert [enter IP address or domain name server] (don't actually type the brackets)

I also use Ping Plotter (enough to pay for it), which is availabe from www.pingplotter.com.

Well, 'whois -h whois.apnic.net 210.192.102.83' shows that this server is in Hong-Kong, or at least in China, so I guess we should expect some latency.

About 10 seconds for everything to load on my 56K modem. I'm in South-East Asia.

it took me more than 20 seconds to load with my ADSL connection here in Switzerland.... :confused:
