...which is only slightly above average for small island registries. You can't expect .com type prices for small ccTLDs belonging to small communities because the overheads per domain are that much higher. And Ascension Island is tiny!

i though .ac would be Academy?
as in the Uk its .ac.uk for Academys and they cant be bought

.ac is as said Ascension Island not Academy lucky for me :)

Oh there is nothing at all to stop you from getting an ac.uk domain.....so long as you are eligable:

The "ac" bit in .ac.uk stands for "academic", just like the "co" bit in .co.uk or .co.za stands for "company". These are second-level domains.

Two-letter top-level domains, on the other hand, are ALWAYS country codes.

It would be a lovely domain for my accountant sis. But they should relax the policies and price it similar to uk or dot com domains, then there will be a major market, domain extensions popularity does not depend on the country's size but on their policies and most important pricing.

Has it ever occurred to you that some ccTLDs may not actually want to become "pretend GTLDs", but see their role as one of serving their Local Internet Community?
