probably because you are comparing an nt plan with plain asp and access to a unix/linux plan with mysql/postgresql and a ton of other things.
a 'full featured' nt plan is more expensive than it linux/unix counterpart.

It's really true. The cost to run a Windows server is higher than to run a Linux server. So most hosts in the hosting market charge Windows plans more than Unix/Linux ones.

Don't compare one NT host's plans with one Unix host's plans and then conclude that NT plan is cheaper. Compare both hosting plans offered by one same host, and you'll see NT hosting plans are usually priced higher than Unix ones.

We'd better not to compare orange with apple.

Wouldn't that make it more expensive? :buck:

Typically Windows-based hosting requires:

1. Expensive Windows licenses
2. More maintenance
3. ...and often more expensive hardware as well

Some hosts offer it cheaper because they may give less features with Windows hosting, or if they're resellers they may be getting a better deal on their Windows-based resold accounts.

But in terms of the actual costs, Windows is definitely more expensive -- no question about that! It's also less reliable, no matter which way you look at it.

Furthermore unless you need ASP, MSSQL or Access support, Windows hosting is not recommended.
