View Full Version : What is the difference between a discussion and an accusation?

In his response to a recent thread, chicken claims that WHT is a discussion forum. This makes me laugh.

Since many of us have read that long thread started by splashhost...

Was splashhost's original post a discussion or an accusation?

You forgot an answer....
WHO CARES!
Can you please leave this topic alone, or post to the original thread. Some of us are not trying to read the soap opera, but it's kind of hard not to when every other thread is about this crap. Give it a rest!

Not that I am interested to vote, but even if I do, I am stumbled with the first line:

No, that was an accusation. Splashhost didn't ACCUSE anyone of anything

Isn't that a ... somehow ... inconsistent and self contradictory statement? I wonder who voted for this one already?

cheers,

About a month ago, a judge ordered that anything said on internet message boards can not be counted as slander. I don't have any info on the news story or anything and I don't feel like looking right now, but just thought you should know since you are making accusations at chicken now.

LOL! I was just going to ask that when I read the first post. Also if you take a look at the question "Was the post by splashhost an accusation or an attempt to start a discussion?" and then you take a look at the answers, how can there be yes or no answers?
:D

Not masking well at all....but even in th emoment of desperation he starts a poll with no possible correct answer.

Isn't choice one something like asking a witness, "when did you stop beating your wife."

And what little I do know about this...it was an accusation....just as if I said....to stupid....

you are stupid....accusation

are you stupid? discussion

Masking what? Obviously I'm only posting about this issue.

It just pisses me off that so many people are so willing to condemn a company based on "proof" that is provided solely by the accuser.

I'm not trying to mask anything.. but I had to pick a username, so I did. You want a website? How about "DOyouJUDGEbeforePROOFisGIVEN.com"?

I definately think I should add that poll to my list of "stupid" things I've done. I think I laughed milk out my nose when I read it.. too bad only the mods can change them.

Oh well.. I was simply trying to see whether WHT was helping us "discuss" this topic, or whether they were providing a forum to assist people to make unprovable accusation.

Because if anyone can simply post something like that... then these forums are going to get filled with people accusing their competitors of just about everything.

Well, we can change the wording (of the poll), though I think beyond the wording (of the poll), things *like* this are posted once a day (almost, sometimes two a day, sometimes none, I don't have exact figures). When someone posts, hostxzy shut off my account or billed me for 2 months, or didn't refund me, or didn't answer support emails, is it a discussion or an accusation? I don't know, and I don't think it is often possible for anyone to know.

The forum isn't meant to be a legal record of things that happen. It is meant to be a place for you to post your story. You know what- sometimes a host does indeed email a customer back and the person either didn't check the correct email account or the emails went off to the place where the extra socks go in the dryer.

The host might not be here to tell us that they did in fact email the person back, and even if they are here and did confirm the return email, it is up to you to make a decision as to what really happened. It helps to have other users reporting that they too either did or did not receive emails but sometimes that isn't always possible.

Good point, chicken. I'm just going through the forums and you're right.. there's at least a poll a day. They're somewhat useless I guess.

Can you leave this one up? It's a good one for when I want to have a nice laugh at my own stupidity when I'm feeling a bit blue.

I wasn't really talking about the pol itself, rather the topic of the poll. For example:

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30365

From this, can you reasonably determine that AIT charged this guy $600? That the quoted support emails are genuine? That any of this even happened at all?

Of course not. Others backed up the claim (to some degree). Are they all the same person with multiple logins? Are they different but their claims actual?

Who the heck knows for sure.

I can give you the AIT ticket numbers and everything you want.
The support emails are truly genuine, I've quoted them word-by-word.
In fact, their extra charges for the MySQL logfiles ended up USD900 - if you need a prove, I can publish the invoices and the du logs (besides the emails from the support).
Tell me what else would you need from me to prove my case?
Let me know, I'll send the stuff to you - just don't prove my case fake without knowing what happened, OK?
Thank you.

Hmmm, second time we're missed the point.

guczo, my point wasn't that your post was fake, nor that your experiences weren't valid. The point is that only you and AIT know *for sure* and that we just read it (and have to make up our own minds as to whether the infomation posted is genuine, etc.).

Don't send me anything, I'm too busy this weekend :D

I truly cannot understand your point.
You've been complainming that "God only knows if this complaint is valid since the quoted support emails might not be valid" - at least that's what I've understood from your message. Frankly, it was rather kind of offensive for me, suggesting that I was faking those support emails from AIT.
On a second thought, you're right, you cannot get a prove for every single claim right away - but I thought that was one of the reason for setting up this forum, so that reports and opinions on hosting service providers can be challenged and discussed.
So, I still don't get your point, sorry. Or, if I understood it well, would mean that you should shut down this forum.
