View Full Version : The Headache Called SPAM

Does anyone else put as much effort as I do into trying to protect clients from spam? I am constantly tweaking, fighting and cursing to keep spam count low for people. I must be doing something right, I just got an email from a client who was complaining about the 6 spam emails he got over the last 2 days.

My first reaction is SIX?! Does this person know how hard I work on this? I get 50 per day and I'm the one running the stupid thing! But I calmly apologized and told him we work hard at keeping spam low.

Anyway, what do some of you do to protect clients from spam? Do a majority have something working server wide to help people? Or do you simply tell them to turn on SA or such in your control panel and let them sort it out at their mail client?

I armored my servers against spam a long time ago.

Look into Exim based filtering and tell them to turn SpamAssassin. ;)

I use H-SPHERE for my control panel, and it has per user/mailbox antispam and antivirus settings. Clients can control their own settings. I block known spammers before it even gets to the clients.

I have Exim/Exiscan/SA running, blocking anything over an SA score of 10. Any lower and I am afraid clients will lose needed mail. I have backup mailservers in place for higher paying clients and spammers love to target them. I also have RBL list blocking active in Exim. Plus scanning for virii, common trojan laced attachments and mal-formed attachments. I would say about 90% is kept out. I guess I thought my clients would be happy about their spam filtering. Just needed to blow off some steam. :)
