CypSteel 02-07-2005, 10:52 AM I currently have a 4/60gb reseller account over at site5. I have been very happy with it. I paid $20 bucks a month for a year in advance.
Watching the superbowl last night, I seen the godaddy commericial and just thought I would check their rates. (wow that 1 milliondollar commercial worked)
I find that they have Virtual Dedicated Servers 10/500gb for $28 dollars a month. I have searched and haven't found any pro's or con's for them. Is anyone using them?
Is there anything I am not taking into consideration? I did notice that they didn't seem to have any forums set up on their site. I also noticed that they charge extra for domain plesks? How does that work? Does that mean I can't host other domains unless I get the other licenses of Plesk? Or does that just mean I can't give my customers Plesk access? With unlimited domains for plesk the price jumps to $36.
Is plesk better than cPanel? Pro's Cons?
You guys are the experts, I am very new to the field. Show me what I am not seeing. I did do a search but only 5 threads on Godaddy.com.
Thanks,
Cyp
kelvinklay 02-07-2005, 11:38 AM as godaddy hosting is new in hosting business they need to offer more for less price.
Look at the top host most people use ev1, server4matrix and other top host.
I would never stick with a Registrar for a hosting solution.
CypSteel 02-07-2005, 01:08 PM After looking more into it, I can bring up some other points that might have to be considered.
What I understand with a VDS you have to keep it managed also. Which takes time and resources. Hence patching and keeping up with updates.
I still am struggling with the plesk licenses. It comes with one for your domain. Does this mean you can't host your clients domains without it? Or you can't give them access to plesk? Can you set up their domain in your plesk? Will they have email boxes and accounts without plesk?
Again, a definate noob here.
Thanks,
Cyp
layer0 02-07-2005, 05:19 PM Plesk is significantly slower in loading times than the average CP I have used. As I say to everyone try to keep the domain and hosting with different companies.

grace5 02-07-2005, 06:35 PM Go daddy hosting might be fine, but if they run it like they run the domain name part I would run.

That's why they are no longer a "registrar" and rather an all around internet company who has their hands in numerous different baskets...including domain registration.

DogoTek 02-09-2005, 07:46 PM Let's face it guys .................. with the cashflow they seem to have, they are ready to be a major player in this business. Let's see what happens after the BUZZZZZ. We lean towards a free Resellers program.
Project X 02-09-2005, 11:54 PM please please... dont let me say anything
concreteman 02-10-2005, 01:05 AM I heard that was you in the commercial Lauren, is that true?

You also warrant that the web site being hosted by Go Daddy will not be used in connection with any illegal activity.
gotta read the details... what other hosts specify that you deal with the GIF patents and legalities?
ldcdc 02-10-2005, 08:41 PM The GIF patent expired: http://lpf.ai.mit.edu/Patents/Gif/Gif.html
I think Godaddy must take care of a thing or two in their TOS. :)
Storagedump.com 02-11-2005, 01:38 AM godaddy is a fantastic registar but there plans are no good, why would you limit mysql database to 1, that just seems like you are making an effort to be pointless.

I completely agree, I will not even consider a host if they don't offer unlimited mysql. Too many hosting companies do these days.
*Edit: Well, then again I didn't see their prices.
fobulous 02-11-2005, 11:18 AM EV1servers suck
i watched the whole superbowl n didn't see their commercial????
vadertech 02-11-2005, 02:22 PM It was supposed to air twice. Once at the beginning of the game, which did air and at the 2 minute warning. The network pulled the spot at the 2 minute warning and replaced it with a Simpsons commercial.

Apparently you didn't.
Read all about it on the weblog of Go Daddy's founder: http://www.bobparsons.com/
Including links to both (the aired and the banned) ads.
hostxpro 02-14-2005, 09:10 PM I know GoDaddy has a good rep for domain names if this helps.

CypSteel 02-14-2005, 10:31 PM Still lost about the plesk licenses. Also how slow are VPS's? I did call Godaddy.com and inquired some information. The guy seemed clueless on the VPS information. I asked "What speed processor is on the machine? How much memory?" His reply was "it has 10gb and 500gb bandwith"
Very iffy. Also hence my first dedicated server. What should I be wary of?
Maybe I will send them an email

Different provider handle VPS' differently. Generally they will allocate each VPS on a server with an allotment of CPU usage and memory (as well as HD and BW of course). You will have to get a knowledgable person at GoDaddy to answer that specific question for you..

I only watched for 5 minutes...and happened to catch it. Lucky me. :)
HostingInsider 02-20-2005, 06:11 AM I don't think you can resell with a GoDaddy VPS, but I'm not 100% sure...
