What would you say is the best host to resell hosting from? and why?

Johnny, asking what the 'best' host is is wayyyyy too open ended. If there was only one 'best' host then we'd all be using them. This also applies to hosts you can resell for.

It comes down to needs. One great host might resell packages to you for only $19.95. This won't be good for you if you hope to sell packages for $10 to college kids at a booth.

Just asking which one is the 'best' will only get you general answers that won't be all that helpful. If it were only that easy :)

Adding to what Chicken said, I think it also depends on who you plan to market to: E-commerce business, organizations, communities, web designers etc. etc.

Because there are literally thousands of web hosting companies out there - all trying to compete for your business, the first thing you should do in finding the "best" hosting company is to write down all your requirements. By specifying those requirements (like 24/7 tech support or detailed site statistics) you'll be able to weed out those hosting companies who cannot fulfill your needs. There are tons of web hosting directories that allow you to specify your hosting searches to meet your needs. Simply go to your favorite search engine and type "web hosting directory" or "web hosting search". Once you have a relatively short list of web hosting companies you're considering, go to a forum like this one, and do a search for those companies, or post a question asking for opinions on those hosts.

Good luck!

Hi,

Would have to agree with the others. You have to consider many factors. I use olm.net and two things I am happy with stand out. The first is web based admin. Managing accounts is very easy with their online admin areas. The second is the discounted domain name program for resellers. Both of these work great for me.

There are many hosting companies though. Take a look at which one has the features you need most.

Johny, like the others said, there's much more to it than the prices. I would suggest you pay attention to the following:

1) Account setup mechanism. Who will setup the new account? can you setup your customers accounts or will you have to email the host and wait for them to do it for you?

2) The same applies to upgrades, how will you upgrade a customer's account?

3) Do you get a good control panel to manage customers password, email accounts, subdomains, MySQL etc...

4) Do your customers get a good control panel to manage features of their accounts? The better the control panel, the less support requests you will get. Look around and ask to see a demo. Most hosts provide a demo account which you can play with.

5) Does the host ptovide the programs customers ask for... PHP 4, Perl 5, MySQL, etc...

6) If you are still confused, see which host will go the extra mile for you. Ask if you can customize plans, or if the host would be willing to install some software that is currently not installed, or allow access to some features like telnet, or crontab etc...

Finally, keep in mind that many smaller hosts provide much better service than the "big boys" because of the personal treatment. To the big hosts, you are just another reseller out of thousands.

Good luck in your search.
