View Full Version : [Complaint] What happened to the Joke thread?

Aussie Bob

There was a thread in the lounge that had jokes in it. Some made me chuckle, and I was thinking, ahhhhh that's a nice change from all the political threads and such. Good clean jokes that provide a little much needed giggle. I thought, great stuff! :gthumb:

However, it seems the thread has been removed. :(

1. Why was the thread removed?

2. Which rule did that thread break? (be specific)

3. Are Joke threads not allowed?

I've reread the rules (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?s=&action=forum-rules) for the last 15 minutes, and cannot see anywhere where that thread broke any rules. :eek3:

If, for whatever logic, joke threads are banned from WHT, then how about add that into the rules?

I am appreciative of the moderator's voluntary efforts, and although they work for INET, for free (?), I feel the removal of this thread deserves some kind of public explanation.

This is a sad day when a thread of good clean jokes is removed from the WHT Lounge. Very sad indeed.

BTW, I'm not mad, or looking to get into any kind of ego driven battle with the Mods. Life's too short, I'm too busy, and this is just a forum. I am just saddened that this happened, and curious as to know why.

I wouldn't complain too much Aussie Bob they remove whatever they see fit or they tell me to use "common sense" and it took me to make a joke thread! They were good jokes and they spoiled my fun... :(

It will be posted sooner or later. You might as well use that and re-post their answer here.

So no official response from the mods about trashing a joke thread. Truly amazing. I've been slaving away on my house all day today, and thought there would be some kind of official response from the mods.

So somehow now the Mods deem is against the rules to have a jokes thread in the lounge. That has to be the most rediculous thing I have ever heard. This is the lounge, for crying out loud!

What has WHT come to? Banning jokes in the lounge? This is so so sad. Jokes make folks laugh, and contribute to the well being of a community. I cannot see any logic in deleting threads, because they have jokes in them.

No wonder the regulars are abandoning WHT. :eek2:

I'm not using the helpdesk. We can deal with this issue in public. I have nothing to hide.

It's probably just a joke :)

They will put it back and say the joke is on you....or something just as hillarious. That is the only possible solution.....is't it?

I don't know who closed it or why, but that's what the Helpdesk is for.

No, I am giving feedback. That's what this forum is for. I'm not going to use the helpdesk.

No big deal. I just can't understand why a joke thread was trashed from the lounge.

Is it against the WHT rules to post a "Jokes thread"?

Sure, there is stuff in the trash because it is that. But, there are threads in there that are moved there because we don't have a "Removed for security/legal/or because someone was bored and needed to move something" forum.Originally posted by Aussie Bob
. . .Is it against the WHT rules to post a "Jokes thread"? Not at all. In fact, feel free to start another. Heck, if I had a fresh clean joke, I'd start it myself. :)

At present in the lounge, Jokes have been posted every few days, which is good.

But in my forum, people have been posting for every thread, inorder to increase their post count.

So what is there to prevent such scenario happening in future in WHT ?

I made a ticket in the helpdesk and here is the response I got:

Feel free to start a new one.

I don't understand why a new thread needs to be created when the old one could be put back up... no explanation...

The thread that was trashed was clean, and had a handful of pretty good jokes in it. I just found it staggering that it was removed, and figured there must be a "no jokes" rule.

Anyhoooo, thank you for answering this thread.

I call for the moderator who threw that thread into "thrown" to come forth and explain to us all why it was thrown.

It's not too much to ask for some accountability from the mods.

Then why have the "WHT-Announcements, WHT-Feedback, WHT-Questions" forum if everyone is asked to use the helpdesk?

Also, Kerry Jones asked the questions through helpdesk and received no explanation.

I personally haven't seen the thread Aussie Bob and Kerry Jones are talking about, but just by reading the answers in this thread it seems like no one cares.

Best,

The helpdesk is for more personal queries. Like bannings, why a thread got tossed, etc.

This forum is more for questions like "Where do I post advertisements" or "How many posts until we get a custom title". Stuff like that.

I did submit an inquiry on why my thread was toss with no given answer. The only response was the one SoftWareRevue provided.

Artashes: I'll give you an example of the jokes we were making:

Mine: Well the super bowl was just on so i'll make a joke about.

we know some guys are homophobic.
isn't ironic how they like to spend many hours watching men tackle each other? :P

Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, and Al Gore were in an airplane that crashed.

Now they're in heaven, and God is sitting on the great golden throne.

God addresses Al first. "Al, what do you believe in?"

Al replies, "Well, I believe that the internal combustion Engine is the root of all evil and that we need to save the world from CFCs and that if any more freon is used, the whole earth will become a greenhouse and we'll all die."

God thinks for a second and says, "Okay, I can live with that. Come and sit at my left."

God then addresses Bill Clinton. "Bill, what do you believe in?"

Bill Clinton replies, "Well, I believe in power to the people. I think people should be able to make their own choices about things, and that no one should ever be able to tell someone else what to do. I also believe in feeling people's pain, but not inhaling."

God thinks for a second and says, "Okay, that sounds good. Come and sit at my right."

God then addresses Bill Gates. "Bill Gates, what do you believe in?"

Bill Gates said, "I believe you're in my chair."

Well, what a terrible arrogant attitude.

Maybe you should actually look at the title for this forum section?
WHT-Announcements, WHT-Feedback, WHT-Questions
Forum to post questions, comments, feedback and suggestions on any aspect of WHT.
I made a complaint, and this fits into the above guidelines perfectly. No, I will not take this issue to the helpdesk.

I saw the whole thread, you don't need to tell me what you were talking about.

If you click on the rules link, Bob, you will notice the "Privacy Policy" section at the bottom...

Privacy Policy: We will not release any member information unless under court order to do so.

That includes why a thread was removed/moved/etc. That is considered member information, especially if it was moved/deleted because it violated a rule.

Aussie Bob

If that's the best WHT mods can do, is whip out the privacy policy, after the helpdesk policy, when they're faced with public accountability, then that's to be expected I guess.

I just don't know why a Leader can't answer my questions I raised.

No bother replying. Sorry for disturbing you.

Seems like a simple question to me that you asked Bob. Ah well. I was hoping to see the answer too but never mind. No biggie.

I feel with Aussie on this one..I can't see why it should be so hard for the mods to tell us why the thread was trashed. As stated, there were no violation of WHT rules in the thread ( as far as I'm familiar with the WHT rules anyways ).

If you go trashing legit threads that are "important" to some members, I think they atleast deserve to know why it was removed. Oh well, life moves on I guess..

I might be stepping out onto a limb here, but even I'm not sure why that thread was tossed. Atleast what I saw of it, it seemed fine to me.

We're finally getting somewhere, but not very far.

One of my observations from reading posts at WHT is the importance of good communication. When clients criticize hosts or other service providers, a common complaint is that the provider didn't properly address problems and concerns. We've seen how situations can escalate from poor communication. The same thing is happening in this situation, and if those in the know don't provide a satisfactory answer, well, we all know how disgruntled people often spread their dissatisfaction.

Someone here can give a better answer than "Feel free to start a new one." If the thread was removed because one poster violated a rule, can you at least tell us that much? And maybe which rule without naming the poster? And why was the whole thread removed and not just the one offending post?

Actually it was three questions.

1. Why was the thread removed?

2. Which rule did that thread break? (be specific)

3. Are Joke threads not allowed?

Of those questions only question three can be answered in public forums by the mods.
Easy to understand. That is why there is a Helpdesk button and that is why the mods tell people to use them.
